Blown engine on the dyno after supercharger install
#121
How do they know there was a engine failure? They did a compression test or there's a rod through the block? How did they come to that conclusion is my question. Who is the shop?
If the heads are ok then just build you a shortblock and move everything over to it. Use a stock crank, a good rod, and nice 10.5:1 piston. You can build that shortblock for under 5k.

I think once you mod the power of the engine the power-train warranty is voided. Blower installed and a tune modifies the ECU and GM will see it in the ECU. Who has heard of anyone getting their engines replaced under warranty after a blower was installed and engine blew up? I would appreciate anyone to chime in because I am getting a blower for my car in 2 weeks.

^It goes like this: if it can be shown that your modification caused the issue which the warranty claim is for, that claim may be denied. The magnuson-moss act allows you to sue the warrantor if you feel they can't prove this in court.
So, a broken seat motor warranty claim won't be denied because you put on a supercharger. A squealing alternator or non-functioning A/C pump probably shouldn't be denied, but might. A busted piston rod most certainly would be denied, and should be denied.
Of course, this is all dependant on if the dealership is even willing to submit the claim, and that is all up to the service manager.
And, of course, some dealers are super friendly. I broke a rear axle doing a burnout in my 2014 Camaro, and even after telling the service manager this, he insisted he work it under warranty.

There are some corvettes that have bottom end bearings that failed and require new engine, I was at my dealer today and they had a corvette with 25k miles getting engine replaced, warranty cost is about $25k this may happen to my car I only have 13K on my 2014 z51 but now I am getting a A&A blower in 2 weeks put on. What if the same happens to me later? Will it be covered under warranty since this problem is quite common on stock unmodified engines?

lol, that is NOT a common issue. And $25K should be damn near illegal for that.

You guys that know about any failures need to keep in mind that you will generally think they are common because you frequent an internet board where nearly every case where it has happened to someone will be documented. It adds a negative bias because people aren't going to make posts about their car not exploding.

I will tell you my experience with a C5 (not modded), a dyno run, a melted engine, adn what GM did.
2001 C5, just over 6k miles. Dyno run to find the top end. Gets to about 192, car dies, will not refire.
11 valves were melted/stretched. No holed pistons.
GM denied the initial warranty claim b/c the ECM snapshot at time of fail shows engine was a couple hundred RPM over redline. Declared driver error/misuse/abuse.
Dealer mechanic was curious, so dug deeper into the computer.
Discovered the ECM was supposed to have shut the car down at 190,
Which in the gear the car was in at time of would have been a couple hundred rpm below redline.
And the snapshots so showed engine was indeed below redline at 190.
He also discovered the ECM failed to issue a shutdown command at 190
instead it issued the shutdown command at 192. At 192, engine was over redline.
Conclusion, ECM failed to shutdown as programmed.
Result: Warranty replacement approved.
Give that, one may assume there may be a limiter on the C7 - so if your tune did not toy with the limiter, you may have a chance....

Where we at with this thing? The OP dropped off this thread in January. Are there any updates other than the assumed cause?
