Default Paddle-Shifter Option for C7?

I am sure every-one who follows racing knows that performance is invented on the race-track. Well I couldn't help but get excited when I saw this video. They mention how paddle-shifters are now legal in GT2 and the Corvette team is adapting to this by developing their own version of paddle-shifters.

As much as I love driving a manual, I would prefer the paddles rather than a manual shifter for racing purposes. Just imagine how much quicker the shifts would be - another .1-.2 off the 1/4!

I will just dream on and wait for the C7 to be officially announced...

Here is the vid btw:

doubt you'll see this level of paddle shifter in a C7 as the development of the car started years ago.

Maybe the C8

Maybe so we'll have to wait to know for sure, but it does sound promising that they will be using it in their race cars.

C6's have a paddle shirt, not exactly like that one but they have it.

No argument there, however the level of performance is not that of the Ferrari's, Lambo's and Porsche's. Hopefully with the mass production quantities that GM puts out they can bring down the cost of the more sophisticated systems and use them in the Corvette and Camaro.

I am ready to give up my 6mt for a double clutch auto such as BMW DCT, Audi DSG, or Porsche PDK. I do not think that will happen in the C7 early on.

Well they need to get it right first with true manual that shifts with paddles and not this piece of crap manumatic they have now. Waiting on shifts is like waiting on Christmas.

I will definitely keep my 2008 C6 z51 manual until the C7 offers a paddleshift dual clutch or MCT planetary transmission with paddle shifters..

No torque convertors for me. Too slushy compared to most dual clutches so I'll hold out and enjoy my present corvette till then.

I may even supercharge this example if I don't find a dual clutch in this new beauty.

My current ride a Lexus IS-F has a locking TC in sport and manual mode, and shifts much faster and firmer than the A6 I test drove before buying my 07 M6. I would even be happy with a trans similar to the one in the F in the C7.

Come on GM, copy something that works there are plenty to choose from, you have to look no further than Audi, BMW, Nissan, or even Lexus.

I full agree with you! Why create something from scratch; when you can just copy and get it right by testing the your design with a proven article. Save millions in R&D.

Smart way to outdo your competitors - global too. Look at the Japanese - they just copy and made it a little bit better.

And have been doing it for many years. Now they are leading pack, so it is time to copy some of their designs.

Other than the 2008+ M3 and the GTR, have any other front engine, rear wheel drive vehicles, costing less that 100K been equipped with an automated manual transmission?

There is a pretty big difference between the ISX50, and the IS-F paddle shift auto. Namely the locking TC that is in the F, resulting in much faster shifts, and is not a top gear limiter style.

Oh really, I didn't even know that. I gotta say that I have driven a IS250 and was surprised of the responsiveness of the paddle shifters and throttle.
