Default GM News Today BG Gears up for C7

Old new news...
but it did state this:

"GM has not released any information on the timing of the new car or when it will be revealed. But it's expected to debut as a 2014 model and could be out sometime next year."

COULD BE out sometime next year....

The link was dead for me; but it must be old news.

The C7 will be unveiled (with a production version vehicle) at the 2013 Detroit NAIAS in January; as a 2104 model.

I will be there !

FYI, the C6 was enveiled - during the same event - in Jan 2004

(Thanks for the correction tuxnharley !)

This "year" stuff is getting out of hand...LOL.

The 2013 Corvette - None produced in 2013. In fact, mostly only in the first half of 2012.

And the 2014 Corvette - the factory being retooled to start making them in early 2013.

Makes me wonder how long before factories actually gain 2 years on the manufacture of new models...

So to reiterate.. no 2013 Corvette will actually be manufactered in 2013.

Production of the 14 may still follow a long history of starting production of the next model year car in July with early delivery's occurring within the same month. Most likely they will take their time building the first few thousand cars like they did the C5 when its production started.

FWIW - If you've ever been quoted in the newspaper, you know they frequently get it wrong.

I was in the BG plant 2 weeks ago. There were areas walled off out-of-sight with plywood where we were told new C7 manufacturing gear was being staged. There were racks of brand new computer equipment installed and programmers connected with laptops getting them ready in the BG test area directly within sight of visitors. We were told those new computers were for testing the electronics coming in the C7. With tours ending on Sept 13 for the work they don't want outsiders like me to see, I'd say they are getting pretty close to switching BG over to the C7. While I'm not an automotive assembly expert, I'd guess a C7 in 2014 is very likely.

Cheers,
JB

Did you perhaps mean in 2013? As a 2014 model year car?

PS - I love Mark Twain's (who in a previous career was Samuel Clemmens, a newspaper man) quote about newspapers:

"If you don't read the newspapers you are uninformed,
if you do read the newspapers you are misinformed"

When I was in the industry a few years back, the Environmental Protection Agency and/or the National Highway Traffic Safety Adminstration didn't allow production of a model year more than one year head of the model year date (e.g. no 2014 models before Jan 1, 2013). It had do with safey and emission equipment laws.

Interesting. I guess I never thought about that aspect of it.

According to GM officials, the Detroit Auto Show "Reveal" of the C7 in January 2013, has not been decided, as yet. This may be old news.

Heard it at Carlisle last weekend from the GM team of Engineers onsite... the 2013 MY is the LAST year for the ZR-1 and the C6 generation with the roll-out of the 2013 selections.

Semantics. Do not get hung up on RPO codes.

The 2013 C6 will be produced into early first quarter 2013, so there will be 2013's produced in 2013.
