More C7 Competition
I just found out that the Jaguar F-Type, two seater, two door convertible sports car (first true 2 seater Jag since the XKE) that is being introduced at the Paris auto show in 4 weeks, will be out in April. Jag will offer either a supercharged six, or a normally aspirated eight. The tranny will be an 8 speed paddle shifter. The car, based on the CX16 concept car shown at the LA Auto show last November, will, like all Jags, come fully equipped with very few options and will sticker for around 65K! Of course the interior will be typical first class Jaguar, and the exhaust, as seen in the videos of the mule on the track, sounds wonderful. I hope all of the boys over at GM are taking notes, for hopefully, the C7 will not be the disappointment that so many of us on this fourm are expecting. I was at the LA show and the Jag concept was stunning. The C7 jalopnik pics are nothing more than an abortion. Just my opinion.

Sounds like a great alternative for all those Audi, BMW, and Mercedes coupe buyers.
I think I might have to check it out too.
Bet it's not in Corvette's performance class, though.

I have followed this new Jag for about a year and I think I have seen the finished product ( the coupe concept ) and I am disappointed with the Jag's conservative styling . I am excited that it appears that GM will take a riskier approach with the C7. I used to be completely in love with the traditional british sports car look ( BMW Z8 ) but no longer. I like where GM is going and disappointed with the new Jag.

Supercharged 6 and naturally aspirated v8. That leads me to believe 350hp tops for the v6 and probably under 450hp for the v8. both will probably weigh in at around 3500lbs I'd assume. By those estimates, I think the vette is plenty safe from it performance wise. And if a 350hp a seater starts at $65k, they'd be hard pressed to get me in one, if I was in the market(and I do love cheesy supercharged whine on cars). I believe the slk55 amg with 420hp was around that price as well.

16 Vettes and counting…..
Exactly what is "over that price?" If you're referring to the XK, it's a different car.....a GT that will remain slotted above the upcoming smaller sports car. There is no current car in the Jaguar lineup that the F-Type is replacing. It's a new model. Jaguar is targeting the Cayman with the new car......so the $65K price tag is probably spot on.

The current XKR Convertible is just over 4000 pounds, so I would expect the smaller F-type to be lighter than that. As for price, it will probably be higher than $65k since the base XK convertible comes in at $90k, I would guess starting price would closer to $75k.

To comment on a few of the above posts, my info came from someone I know who is directly associated with Jaguar. The new sports car will be much lighter and smaller than the current XK and XF series. The price of 65K was on the high side, for he said it could be closer to 60K.
As far as performance, It will hit 60 in a max of 4.5 seconds, and who cares if it can't make it to 60 in 4.2 or 4.0? There are VERY FEW people who buy a particular car based soley on a difference of a half a second in the 0-60 times! The video of the F-Type Jag on the track has the passenger and driver commenting that the over all performance (acceleration, handling, sound, and driving experience) is top notch.

Are you referring to the Z4 35i, the best looking vehicle BMW has produced the past 20 years, that has DCT (which every other future C7owner wants) 332 HP, instant torque at 1500 RPMs and drives like a true sports car after you replace the crappy OEM Run Flat tires with a good set of high performance Michelins? THAT car?

I loved the Z3 M but I just don't care for the overly feminine design of the latest Z4 ! Haha don't get mad...just my opinion and probably everyone on this forum ( but you ) agrees with me !

I thought the Z3 was overly feminine and the Z4s have all been more masculine.
Though I think the just-departed Z4 is the sharpest-looking and the latest edition has lost its edge. I really like the Z4 coupe; much better looking than the folding hardtop.

I think the beginning of 2013 will be a fun time in the car industry. I have been waiting to see the Jag F Type and the C7 Corvette....and the 2013 Boxster S redesign is pretty sharp as well.......
