I could see adding some HVAC and windows in the Thule and sticking some of the kids up there .

Figured this would go here:
I haven't read through this whole thing but was looking for a place to bring this up. On a performance front, especially for the upper Corvette models, I think huge competition is the SRT Viper. 640 HP, 600 lb*ft, it's a monster.
The news, however, is the pricing that was just released from your favorite news source:
http://jalopnik.com/5942027/the-2013...tarts-at-97395
At just under 100k, that looks like a great price for that car. I don't care what you say, at under 100k for the regular SRT, the performance trim C7 will need some major push for under 100k to match that thing.

2014 C7
1. 2013 Cayman (redesign)
2. 2013 BMW 335i coupe (redesign)
3. nothing
Current ride 08 BMW 335i coupe/sports/6mt.
I am the $55,000 or so guy. Looking to sneak in to the best car listed, with no luxury options, just performance options.

Z4 BMW or 3 series (even M)...no way....I would never cross shop those.
M6.... yes
Benz C63 AMG, E550 Cabrio....yes
Caymen maybe....Boxster no way.
Just maybe its closest competitor is the Mustang.

Counter intuitive but I think this is a bet made in a position of weakness; not strength (see Nissan GTR).
I think Corvette is going down the same road but not at this increment and certainly with different sales volumes in mind.
Would be interesting for another thread:
"Would you buy a 100k Corvette?"

Twist my arm and make me pick the top 3 non-GM models that C7 conquers or gets conquered by in individual head-to-head buyer decisions? Leaving out ZR1, I say:
1. M3
2. Cayman/Boxster
3. 911
because they are the standards. Every other sports coupe/sedan is chasing and trying to differentiate itself from the M3. Every other small two-seater of substance is chasing and trying to differentiate itself from the Cayman/Boxster. And everything under $100K is measured against the 911.
Corvette already wins the price/performance checkbox battle against these three. What it lacks, and what C7 must strive to earn, is the reputation for uncompromising excellence that these three models exude.

Most of the BMW and P Car excellence is myth.

It's myth that sells cars. They have a rep for delivering a great sports car experience. Corvette has a rep for delivering numbers and exposing an Achilles heel. Uncompromising excellence means that nothing sucks. And no, it's not a level playing field -- BMW and Porsche will get the benefit of the doubt more than Corvette. Them's the breaks.

Melting Slicks
I am seeing the C7 heading away from the niche' that the Viper occupies. The C7 may end up being 300lbs lighter and physically smaller than the Viper. The speculative pics are showing us a Corvette that will be tasteful in design, something that may be more appealing to a worldwide audience .
I think the Viper is a missed opportunity for Chrysler Fiat. Heck, the ball players don't like them either.

F3x M3
Cayman/Boxster
IMO.
Cars like the GT-R and the Viper will be for higher performing Corvette models to take care of.
