Aren't the Targas unstable and leaky? I used to think it was a sweet feature until I read all of the nasty stories on the forums from Targa Top owners who have tons of issues.

Lots of problems at one time but I'm sure there are PLENTY who never had one problem with theirs. Hopefully they've got all the issues sorted out.

My 2010 does not leak or make noise. They must have ironed out the issues. It is still a sweet feature.

Default No sale

No Targa top ? No sale.

The number one reason I buy a corvette. As 4 leaking or creaking? No idea. Never have the roof on. Hmmm can't remember if it is solid or transparent.

With the seemingly lack of the traditional halo, there could be an almost targa top, which to me, would be a great idea and would keep the frame almost as rigid as possible.

If the top frame ran up the A pillar, then back down the B pillar/C pillar/whatever it'll be, it could continue on as one piece. Then, just the center section could pop out. Granted, this wouldn't be as "free" or open as the targa has been from c4-c6, but it would .mean their would be almost no flex in the top frame, since the top portion would be all connected.

Its late, and re-reading it its a horrible way to phrase it, but hopefully everyone gets the idea. Personally, it makes the vette unique, and I love even my c4's removable top. The base coupe isn't meant to perform at 10/10's usually, a targa seems like a great idea still.

I didn't read the entire thread, and this is coming from a Z06 guy/former owner

But if it saves weight, cost, and makes the car tighter like you typically get with a z06 over a coupe, I am ALL for it. It was nice to drive without a top when i drove my old man's targa, but i've gotten to lazy to take it off/on all the time. I jus tleft it off no matter what i did or what store i went in. Just didn't drive it if it was going to rain. Targa is a much bigger pain to mess with than the old ttops on my Z28 were.

My dad and I just couldn't believe the difference in how the car felt driving around a tiny city block at 10-20mph, and his coupe has z06 sway bars and bilstiens. It just felt different even at low speeds. C5 couple and c5z btw

i say get rid of the targa (if they are gonna do it) on the higher end models.

Base models should leave it alone and keep them.

If I were forced to choose between a targa top or a retractable top I would choose the targa.

As I have stated I really hope they ditch the targa top. I owned one once and that was enough. It will be interesting to see just how they do it and how in the heck they are going to make it look any good with that rear quarter window should they decide to do it. I don't see any way it can look good when i look at the renderings of the car as is. It's going to look like someone took a bite out it or something. Old and tired idea that needs to be put to rest IMO. Anyone who loves them that much will have their choice of a glut of C6's that will flood the market when this new one is introduced.
It's always amazing to me how people desperately try to cling to the old ideas of the past and resist change. They would love to see the pop ups, dash handles, targa tops, round tail lights, chrome wheels etc. all remain in some sort of updated fashion. Hard to believe but some even wanted the return of the ridiculous split window and stingray retro design on a new generation. God, can they make the knock off spinner wheels for us too? How about those silly side pipes? Why not add those too? All those ideas were cool at the time and had their place, but do we need to keep them forever in some shape or form?
If GM introduced a new generation car like that, the same folks will start crying that they are keeping their C5/C6 because the C7 is nothing more than a C6 1/2, just as they did with the release of the C6, yet they want to hold on to all the antique design ques of the previous generations. Retro totally sucks. I don't quite get it. Time to move forward.

No! Some bitch about some squeaks, but my 2006 is as quiet as can be.

Not sure what you mean by 'unstable', and I have never heard of one leaking.

I think that refers to the delamination issues that some earlier years had.

I agree with Frankie too. Could you imagine the diehard C1 Corvette guys when the 63' hit the streets. That had to be very exciting!

Both the 458 and the MP4-12C have folding metal roofs. You change the roofline for the convertible, obviously.

No, I haven't found that to be the case at all, at least not with the C5s/C6s.

Funny that I think the MP4 -12 is a better looking car with the folding top.
Also, I thought the BMW 3 was better looking with the folding top

Default Follow up

I agree with most everyone on the Targa TOP - I would not miss it.

I just hope this is not anywhere near what the C7 is going to look like - that rear window and tail lights are UGLY!!!!! Bringing back the Pace Car look - HOLY ( )!!!

I will be keeping my 2012 C6 and start looking for a nice used C6 ZR1

I prefer the hardtop (Berlinetta) because the chassis is stiffer, no creaks, and better handling. I never had the roof off of my last 2 Vettes. (And I sunburn so easily that a convertable makes no sense to me.)
