Corvette Unveiling will NOT be at Cobo it will be here
Read this in today's Detroit Free Press:
"2014 Chevy Corvette almost here as cross flags appear on Motor City building General Motors put up a projection of the Corvette cross flags emblem on the Russell Industrial Center in Detroit on Thursday in anticipation of Sunday night’s unveiling of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. The seventh generation of the Corvette will be one of the most anticipated vehicles to be shown during next week’s news media previews connected with the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The Corvette unveiling will be held at the Russell Industrial Center."
Which is why this banner is hanging on this building which IS the Russell Industrial Center.
So for all of you who were condeming this building, Detroit in general, you are all going to die if you don't get out of town after sunset, yada, yada, yada, GM saw fit to unveil the 2014 Corvette in a gritty urban setting. I can guarantee you GM is pouring tons of money to give this building a much needed interior makeover. When it's done, the artists that inhabit this building will be very thankful!

It looks like that was one of the buildings in the Russell complex that the emblem projection was on too.

WTF!!!
Will everyone attending be issued a bullet proof vest and an AK-47 assault rifle?
2012 was Detroit's most violent in nearly 20 years; shootings,
bloodshed have 'become the norm'
January 4, 2013
By Gina Damron Detroit Free Press Staff Writer
As Detroit recorded its highest homicide rate in nearly two decades, city and police officials pledged to try to stem the tide of violence.
Authorities recognized the spiraling problem of gun play and homicide in Detroit during a news conference Thursday -- a recognition that comes as the city kicks off the new year with violence.
Already this week, a mother has been charged with fatally stabbing her 8-year-old daughter, and a cab driver was shot to death.
"We've lost respect of each other," Mayor Dave Bing said. "We've lost respect for life."
Detroit officials announced that the city had 386 homicides in 2012, not including 25 killings deemed justifiable. This is the highest number since 2007, when the city logged 392 homicides, according to FBI crime statistics. It's also the highest homicide rate in nearly two decades.

Guilty as charged, but I was only condemning a building that seriously looks like it should be condemned.

A fellow member Ozlot of another car community took this photo last night. His carpentry shop is around the area.

I wonder, if you plotted the murders on a map, how many would be within the downtown monorail loop, and how many would be out where tourists don't go.
BTW, in most cities, Yuppies pay extra to live in buildings that look like that. If only Detroit could export its dilapidated factories....

so they put a bunch of banners on a bunch of ugly abandoned buildings for what purpose?
is it advertising how pathetic detroit is? is it advertising how pathetic their real estate market is? I sure as hell hope nobody buying a c7 will be hanging out in those places.
That marketing is stupid. Anyone that wants to get a c7 already knows about it, no need for idiotic publicity stunts.

They may be tapping into the same vibe that Chrysler did in its brilliant "Imported From Detroit" Super Bowl ad.
It seems apropos for Corvette to celebrate survival in tough times.

Some folks just don't get it...they are doing this in that area to test the new C7's anti-theft security systems.
Seriously, they probably just did it there to have total control over security so none of the paparazzi the blogs or mags hired to work under cover at the auto show bldg would have a clue (or a pass) to gain a pic. I imagine that the area will be very secure.
