Hard to say, they're well past the ability to put down 638hp. Without AWD, it's almost pointless.

The Nissan is in the 580hp range, is about 500lbs heavier, and runs high 10's with a monkey driving it. Adding more hp to the RWD platform won't do a whole lot for keeping up.

Wasn't it talked about for a while that the ZR1 would be the highest HP 'Vette we would ever see with the upcoming move towards smaller engines and better fuel economy? I'm all for a 700hp monster, but I wonder if it's a realistic expectation in today's climate.

Its not a big jump from the current ZR1 to 700hp.

I realize that, but what I was saying is that I thought the numbers might start going down rather than up.

If they get a better hp to weight ration, do a few tech tweaks (to launch control, etc) to put down the power that’s there, does it even matter the HP number isn't higher than ZR1? In the end for me it’s not the hp numbers that matter, it’s how fast the car is.

What about it? It's still slower 0-60 than the Nissan. Pretty much proves my point.

0-60 times aren't the only thing high hp is used for.

I think the question also is, how LOW will the weight go....

HP has its limits...it's about reducing mass...look at race cars...hell, look at the C6R. In these current times, manufacturers can make 1000hp and pass emissions, etc. It's no longer unreachable. Point is, there is more than one way to achieve low power-weight...and it involves more than just power.

well said.

Imagine the C6ZR1 with AWD and a DCT....I do believe it might travel at the speed of light.
