Gotta love technology
An excerpt from Car and Driver regarding the 1979 L82 option Corvette.
Jump ahead 34 years and we have twice the hp and mileage in a far better handling car.
"The 60-series tires' one saving grace is straight-line traction. The mighty L82 engine (225 horsepower this year), backed up with the biggest gear money can buy (3.70 to 1), had all it could do to break these tires loose off the line. Wind it up, snap off a one-two shift, and you're at 60 mph in 6.6 seconds. Even with a fairly green engine, our test car easily buzzed its tach needle smartly to the redline in top gear, or 127 mph. Enjoy these disrespectful bursts of speed while they last, because next year the Corvette must follow corporate mandates with a speedometer that plays dumb after 80 mph."
I would like to see a 3.70 axle option on the C7!

And yeah much of that price increase was caused by Big Gov.
But IMO, cars lean too much on tech now. And not nearly enough concern is shown for price. And not just Corvettes, but all kinds of cars.
I know I'd gladly trade all the new apps & gadgets on the C7, for lower tech & an LS7 as the standard hammer instead.

Let's also remember that high-tech 2014 now costs about four times the base price of what a 1979 Corvette did. So is it really that much better?
