do i need to put a deposit at a dealer to buy the C7
i have never bought a new car as soon as it comes out, much less something as hyped up as this C7. do i need to put a deposit down to make sure i will be able to buy one this year? i dont remember when the C6's came out and if the hype was this great.
i do know i still have my initial thoughts about the car that i had during the unveiling but i am putting that behind me. i want one and i believe i will love an all black one, or possibly the laguna blue.

There are no deals, dealers have no price lists, you are placing a deposit only with the dealer, no guarantee when the car will become available. You will have to accomplish a purchase agreement, this agreement is subject to state laws where it is created. I'm waiting until all the hype dies and then I will place an order for a convertible.

The answer is YES, first make sure that dealer has allocation. If you can find a dealer that will take a deposit and put MSRP or what every you agree on in writing then do that. Plus what number car in their allocation as well. Its a simple process of have them draw up something on their current buyers order. Obviously they will not have a VIN but just have them put something on there your deposit is refundable if they don't get allocation or if constant constraints delay production (this you can take to the bank will happen). Just have them agree on the purchase order that you get # ? of the C7's they get.
If you don't get it in writing you have nothing. If they have a change in managers you are screwed if not in writing. If not in writing and somone offers $5,000, 7,000, or 10,000 over MSRP you will be sold out. I saw this happen with the C4 ZR-1's, C5's, C5 Z06's, C6, C6 Z06.
Again make sure your local dealer is getting 1, 2, 3 ?
You could wait 1 year, let them work the bugs out some and have prices settle down some too.
Good luck

If you like giving interest free loans... sure
Unless you just have money to burn and HAVE to be the first on the block with the car, you are much better off waiting till supply/demand stabilizes and a dealer has something you can look/touch/test before you plunk down all that cash.

Since the corvette is a very emotional car, most people don't have the restraint to wait at least a year( 2 or 3 years would be better), so if you are one of those who want it now, have fun. Best bet is to go with one of the top forum dealers. Not likely you'll get jerked around by them. Tommy Jr at MacMaulkin is a my go to guy.

I personally would just wait and don't be one of the fools who overpay. Remember, its a base C7, nothing special about it. They will be readily available when production starts. Dealers will obviously try and hype them; but patience will save you $$$. There are so many vendors on the forum and local dealers that there will be no problem securing a fair deal once the initial hoopla cools off. Not sure of the first year production numbers, but there will be plenty available.
