I think 450 is perfect. With my c5z06 at 405, I remember thinking wow if this had another 50hp, it'd be perfect. Too much HP sucks, you end up driving around on 4 mm of throttle. You cant use that power on a street car. 450 is enough for 18-0mph, lots of off the line grunt, some power sliding, and general fun. The only reason you'd want more is to show your friends how much of a **** you are.

I would lose the tech too though.

Headline of this thread should have been "less tech and more lightness, please."

A 3K lb, 450 HP C7 would be a serious blast to drive. One wonders if the extra weight for DI, 7th gear, VVT and cylinder deactivation (heavier torque tube and muffler flaps) costs some portion of the MPG gains those technologies allow (of course, the VVT is what give 450 HP and low-end grunt -- might have to keep that one!). Clearly on the highway the extra weight means about nothing, but the "city" mileage is surely a function of weight -- and 10% less ought to count for something...

I am no engineer, but the engineering calculations to prove the overall benefits exceeded the weight penalties must have been something to see....

Everyone wants more horsepower, but unless you track your car (drags or road course) where can you truly use the horsepower of a ZR1 Ferrari 458 of F12, GT500 or Viper to mention a few. As already stated, 450 is more then enough to get the adrenalin pumping on the street.
