Default C7 Convertible Debuts March 5 & 6 in Geneva

The convertible version of the redesigned 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will make its world debut at the Geneva motor show in early March, sources confirm to Autoweek. Also, the Stingray convertible will go on sale as a 2014 model and could be in dealer showrooms by the end of this year.

Press preview days for the Geneva show are March 5-6. The show opens to the public March 7-17. Geneva was also the site where the sixth-generation Corvette convertible made its world debut, in March 2004.

The new Corvette Stingray coupe was unveiled for the Detroit auto show. Chevrolet and Corvette officials have declined to answer questions about the arrival of a convertible version. But camouflaged prototypes of Stingray convertibles have been photographed on public roads.

Chevrolet says the Corvette Stingray was engineered to compete with the best sports cars in the world, and it would like to boost export sales of the two-seater. Geneva will give the Corvette Stingray convertible an international stage for an introduction. It also is an image leader for Chevrolet, one of two global brands for General Motors.

Sources say the Stingray convertible will trail the launch of the coupe by about three months. Production of the Stingray coupe is expected to begin in August, which would lead to a November production launch for the convertible.

Few details of the Stingray convertible are confirmed, but the camouflaged prototypes were fitted with fabric roofs. The 450-hp 6.2-liter V8 and choice of seven-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmissions are likely to carry over from the coupe.

Geneva is an auto show where automakers such as Ferrari and Porsche regularly introduce new cars on neutral turf in the European market. It's possible that this year's Geneva show could be the stage for the introduction of a new high-performance Ferrari sports car, known as the F70. The F70 would be a replacement for the Enzo supercar and draw on Formula One racing technologies developed on the FXX race car verison of the Enzo.

We need someone to point out the downside to this otherwise positive development. Here, I'll start. You mean GM does not even respect us American customers/tax paying bail outers enough to reveal the vert in the US of A? Disgusting

It's got a roof made out of old pants and it costs more than the coupe?

Someone should also point out the upside to this otherwise positive development.

Here, I'll start.

You mean GM respects us American customers/tax paying bail outers enough to reveal the (C7) vert on a Global stage (such as the world renowned Geneva Car Show) to appeal to a broader market and thus quite possibly increase its customers and ultimately its revenues? AWESOME

Some are never happy.

It's the same venue where they unveiled the C6 vert in 2005.

The C7 debuted here, in America. Do you really GAS that the vert. is gonna be at Geneva instead of here? The real debut already happened in Detroit.

NO, the hilarious one is YOU. You get insulted because are a car that already debuted is being introduced as a vert somewhere else. Get over it.

Come on boys, use the big head for just a moment. Doesn't the highlighted portion give you a clue as to what I was doing with the message?

Yes, it does! It could be called "jocular" sarcasm to stem the tide of negativism toward the old pants intro of a de-topped C7 in that watch-making capital of euro-finance.

Oh, and that "j-word" has nothing to do with athletic clothing.....there! I said it.

They sell a lot more cars outside the US than inside it.

Honest to God, anyone who could take my message seriously needs to check their sense of humor. Maybe take a break? I have battled the C7 naysayers in this Forum more than most people, by a long shot. If you don't believe me, click on my name and check out my previous posts. Lighten up people!

Thrilled that the C7 had its reveal in Detroit!!!

Having the C7 convertible unveiled in Geneva in just six weeks means that it will be for sale here before the year is out, and if this is the same pattern as was with the C6 reveal, the high performance version (at least the first of them if there are eventually two versions), would debut in Detroit next January, be on sale in September, 2014. This is great news for C7 convertible "wanters" as well as HP wanters.
