some nice things about C7. However, their article did not like the C7 Auto Trans because it is ASIAN. No dis to the Asians they make some fine cars but why does GM have to do that. Chevy uses the Allison trans in some trucks and it is a top of the line. Why can't they make the C7 trans? Took me awhile to warm to the square tail lights. Asian auto trans in C7 is a let down. I hope C&D got it wrong.

They got it wrong It is a GM transmission although there were a lot of rumors about an Aisin transmission prior to introduction.
I have a 6 speed Allison automatic in my GMC Duramax Diesel pickup and it is a great transmission but definitely not for a sports car. I would have to check the weight but the transmission is probably about as heavy as the LT-1 engine in the C7. On edit, the Allison GM uses is 330 pounds dry weight. When it was first used in the pickups it was still part of the GM family of companies.

Little more info. I understand GM plans to build future C7 Auto transmissions at the Toledo, Ohio GM Transmission plant. However because they may not be ready to produce the 2014 C7 trans at the Toledo plant GM reportedly will partner with Japanese Auto Co. Aisin for one year to supply automatic transmissions for 2014 C7 Corvette. Not that it matters except to a few Corvette purist but that was the point of the criticism in the C&D article.

The drawback of the vette is the transmission necessary to handle the engine.
If only vettes could be shifted like an Aisin, with a quick flip of the wrist, rapid 4-3-2 downshifts coming to a stop.
The saving grace is the vette does not need to be constantly rowed in order to stay in the powerband.
