Scaglietti Corvette Italia and the #002 Corvette ZO6 Grand Sport at Petersen
Sergio Scaglietti was building bodies for Ferrari's 'Tour de France' Berlinetta when Gary Laughlin sent him three Corvette chassis off the Corvette assembly line with the help of Chevrolet general manager Ed Cole.
Eighteen months later, the first of the Scaglietti Corvettes was sent from Italy back to Laughlin in Texas. It weighed about 400 pounds less than a production Corvette and, not surprisingly, looked a lot like the Ferraris of the day.
That first 1959 Scaglietti Corvette Italia will be on display Friday and Saturday, March 1-2 at the 60th Anniversary Corvette Celebration at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.
Another historic Corvette being displayed as a part of the Petersen salute to Corvettes is the #002 ZO6 – one of the original five ZO6 coupes later converted to a roadster.
There will be many other historic Corvettes on display at the Petersen event as well as the new 2014 Corvette Stingray. You can get further information and details on tickets at these links:
