I agree... the 911S is a freaking monster on the 'Ring. If the C7 Z51 puts up similar times I will be very impressed.

Turn off all active handling and related computer assist systems on both cars and it will become quite apparent how much of a monster the 911 really is. Then the C7 Z51 really will cream it.

Actually, that's not fair. The C7 won't cream the 911 under those conditions, the 911 will cream itself.

You can not turn off active handling on car with eLSD. It would just be an open diff then.

If you ask here will c7 z51 beat Carrera S at the ring, answer is yes. When you ask will it beat a 2005 zo6 answer is no, although Carrera S laptime is 7:38 and Z06 7:43

The c7 z51 m7 will run the 911s easy...

Lightning lap shows the camaro 1LE and ZL1 take down the 911s so I expect the corvette c7 will do even better

Tadge already stated that a DCT will NOT fit in the Corvette's architecture. DCTs are big and heavy and that has to be a concern from a development standpoint. It certainly won't make the car any lighter.

GM has done a pretty good job of programming the 6 speed Hydra for quick and accurate shifts. The 8 speed will be even better but it won't ever shift as fast as a DCT. However, that shouldn't matter too much at the end of the day as long as the shift times are fast enough to avoid negative comments. It shouldn't be noticeably slower to the point that the Vette is missing significant untapped performance because of it.

For instance, the Carrera S hits 3.5 and 11.8 with just 400 hp because of the PDK. Granted, it has AWD so acceleration times are going to be good but the point is that you don't gobs of power to reach notable figures.

The Vette shouldn't be leaving a couple tenths on the 0 - 60 or 3 to 4 tenths on the 1/4 because the tranny is the weak link. GM needs to figure it out.

I believe that Tadge actually said that about the 8 speed not fitting (in response to someone asking why it's not being offered for 2014 as had been rumored), I don't think he ever said that about any DCT/sequential type of transmission, but maybe.
Of course he might just be saying that to not hurt sales of the 2014 six speed automatic cars until a new 8 speed arrives later on?

Well, AWD is available, but not all 911s have AWD as standard of course. But even the standard RWD models have excellent traction (a rear engined configuration certainly helps in that area).

Interesting information comparing 6 speed automatic in jaguar Xkr versus new 8 speed ZF unit in new jaguar f type and although the f type is a few hundred pounds lighter the .4 tenth improvement in the supercharged v8 f type in running to 60 mph is based off the new 8 speed transmission over Xkr s 6 speed.

Not sure we would see such an improvement in the c7 as it gets an 8 speed....

I'd guess .2 ths improvement at best? Over 6 speed...

Also the article mentions .5ths lost to 60 mph with 7 speed manual compared to Porsche 911 s pdk in equal S models...

Maybe the pdk launch kills the novice 911s tester?

Or maybe the tech is just better for acceleration from a dig in both tq convertor autos or dsg..
