Default Chevy Corvette jumps in price (plus $8K for leather interior)

http://www.nbcnews.com/business/chev...rior-6C9639810

While the base model is very affordable considering the performance one gets, if you’re looking to make it a little more comfortable, the price goes up. Options such as $8,005 leather interior package, $2,495 sport seats, $1,995 carbon-fiber roof panel and $595 for brake calipers that are painted red can push the price of the C7 to more than $70,000.

Oh WOW, really??? You mean you actually have to PAY for extras??? Damn, just imagine other manufacturers would follow that example.....
Options such as $8,005 leather interior package actually it´s WAY more than just leather - look up what 3LT really means!,
$2,495 sport seats that´s the only point I agree with: that`s expensive!,
$1,995 carbon-fiber roof panel and $595 for brake calipers that are painted red Who NEEDS those extras? While I´m happy they are on offer - these are really GIMMICKS: if you want´em buy´em, but the car doesn´t get any better!
can push the price of the C7 to more than $70,000. So? What´s the point? I honestly don´t understand what you´re trying to say!
I LIKE the fact that GM made the C7 affordable AND gives you the opportunity to customize to your liking..what´s wrong with that?

Well, to be fair, the carbon fiber roof comes standard, no charge.

IF you want to SEE carbon fiber on the roof, THEN that costs $1,995.

And I have to argue that the $8005 does nothing to make the interior more comfortable as you suggest. Maybe visually more pleasing, to some, and maybe a better tactile feel, but the seats are the same so no difference in comfort that I see.

Choices.

What you say is correct, but it is also true for any car. It is the options that run up the price. On a side note at $51,000 that is a great price for what you get as far as performance goes.

Even the new Porsche Cayman cost more at $52,600 add a few options and you will be into the upper $60,000 range, and you have a 325 hp engine and a 5 second 0-60.

Another point and I know this will not happen much, but if you are really buying the corvette as a high performance car, the less options you put on it the better the car is. So if I were buying a ne C7 it would on have the Z51 option. AS you add more option you will also be adding to the weight, which is a killer of performance.

The same is true for a C6 with the 4LT and extra goodies.

My first Corvette 1962 model had zero options. I still loved to drive that car plus I could afford it back then.

To me, that $8,000 leather option has so many necessary features, figure the "base" Vette starts at 60 grand.

I would take a look at Recaro seats before ordering an $8000 OEM option

You're thinking of the Z51 package.

The 3LT additions are listed in post #8. Note that the 2LT package is $4,210, and the 3LT package is $8005, a $3795 increase.

I'm torn... while offering a base "stripped down" model allows GM to sell more cars by making it more affordable, it also makes the car less exclusive.

The navigation is $795, so the $8,005 leather interior is really $3000.

It's a Chevy. Exclusive doesn't enter the equation.

I'm all for GM making a profit, but really why on earth would I want to pay more $ than I have to, to get the car?

To be "exclusive"? With what exactly? There's going to be more C7s made in one year, than Ferrari makes cars over ten years. We're talking about a 20,000 a year made car here. There are more Corvettes made in one year than a great many towns have in terms of population.

First off the base car has leather its just not
Napa interior also if u want a non 2 tone interior
U are good with 1LT
For me most other options do nothing
For performance its just looks.
I am sure a Nightrace blue Z51 1LT with
NPP Magna Ride and Auto is fine for me
Just add Nav and i am good the rest is all extra toys
The one thing is heated seats not available with
1LT

I was answering CJJ who questioned what options add weight to the Z51. I should have quoted him before I wrote.
Thanks
