C7 Base car +90 lbs over Outgoing Base C6
Sorry if this is a repost. I had not seen an official weight comparison and although the C7 is a new car with many improvements, I did not expect an additional 90 lbs heavier.

The posts get mixed, can you give us the link?
More importantly, I'd like to se some specific apples-to-apples comparisons:
Base 1LT C7 to base 1LT C6
Z51 3LT C7 to Z51 3LT C6
Etc.
The trim level alone (1LT to 4LT) seems to add over 100 lbs on the C6 and I suspect the same on the C7.

Its even worse that lazy *** posters can't do a simple search to find this subject posted 10 times before to rub it in our sad faces. Oh the horror at these 90 pounds...

It's NOT an "either-or." There's over 100 lbs. I could lop off this thing tonight without costing a single HP, nor any creature comforts that matter to me (of course, I drive a "primitive" C5 Z so I am easy to pleased in that regard)
Considering the many other carmakers who are lopping off weight while adding content and power, I would bet the Corvette team are not all that happy about this. Why do you think they only released the total weight figures last week, months after all the bragging at the reveal about the lighter frame, body pieces, and suspension components?
It's not killer, but it is reasonable that those who were hoping for a bit lighter Vette (which I believe we did get when the C4, C5 and C6 were introduced vs. their predecessors), and were further teased by the initial reveal talking points, should be disappointed.

I'll do my best from memory without cut/paste from a prior post which showed GM's layout of the added pounds -- forgive the imprecision:
For me, none of these "benefits" I got rid of adds a bit of pleasure to the driving experience. I recognize there might be some issues with fuel economy and gas-guzzler, etc. I won't pretend to be an expert on how to optimize that stuff and/or the politics of achieving certain EPA MPG ratings on the Vette. But, lopping off the above 120 lbs. might buy you a bit of around-town MPG offsetting the AFM highway benefit. Plus, given those weight savings perhaps the brakes could be a bit smaller/lighter and just as effective (saving another 10 lbs) and maybe the fuel tank can be a bit smaller. Ultimately, perhaps all of that that could have done the trick with appropriate tranny gearing.
These are all changes that require no redisign AND could push the base price of the base C7 under $50K, to boot. Possibly slightly better performance numbers, also. Leaving the still-improved (in many dimensions) C7 30-40 lbs lighter than its predecessor.
No need arguing about this -- just one guy's view. They have to sell 30K of these things per year and I hope that what they ultimately decided to do succeeds spectacularly. My approach might not have been a winner...
- No AFM (+- 30 lbs)
- no extra weight for interior upgrades -- better seat bolstering, though -- think C4 seats (34 lbs)
- no add-on electronics (+-30 lbs)
- no steel reinforcement needed for AFM vibrations (+-15 lbs)
- 6 speeds are plenty -- maybe make 6th a bit higher to help with EPA highway -- it is a pretty useless gear otherwise anyway (11 lbs)

I can't speak for anyone but myself but I would not have delay my corvette purchase if it wasn't for:
-redesigned interior
-restyled exterior
-all the new tech gadgets
Granted if it wasn't for the C7 I would be driving a C6 by now enjoying a corvette instead of waiting. Not to mention I could have saved 40K. Damn you GM for creating an awesome car and taking corvette to a new level.
P.S Maybe it would be better if they didn't tell us the weight cuz I bet 99.99% of drivers will not be able to tell the between the C6 & C7.

A pound here, a pound there, and pretty soon you've got Rosie O'Donnell...

I just don't think it is fair to say look the C7 is 90lbs heavier without saying the cut over 100 lbs.
Two thing we can bet on with each generation of corvette moving forward:
-They will get heavier!
-The price will go up!
Any weight saving they find will be offset by new "stuff".
I for one think they did a great job of reducing the weight. Take out all the new "stuff" and they shaved over 100lbs from the C6!

There are no base C7, they are all called Stingray. The Stingray replaces the Gran Sport, that's what it should be compared to. The Stingray Z51 is above that.
