Default Factory OEM side skirt pricing vs aftermarket

Why does the factory OEM sideskirts cost so much more than most aftermarket parts? I get that you’re going to pay a little more for GM parts, but a 400-500 dollar difference in factory vs aftermarket?

"I get that you’re going to pay a little more for GM parts"

You nailed it...

The aftermarket has an incentive to best OEM parts providers, otherwise they won't be able to compete. Unless of course they're able to differentiate themselves from the OEM incumbents. That being said, it's important to understand that aftermarket parts are held to varying standards, whereas OEM manufacturers need to be within a certain spec. Doesn't always happen tho...

The OEM parts are 100% carbon fiber, including the Carbon Flash painted side skirts.

The aftermarket parts are fiberglass with 1 ply of carbon fiber over the top for the "Carbon Fiber" parts or simply painted fiberglass for the Carbon Flash parts.

You get what you pay for.

Yes, you get what you pay for but sometimes OEM does not mean it is the better deal. For instance, look at the wheels on the GS/Z06. As for side skirts, I have a set of aftermarket fiberglass ones on my car, the install was easy, they look great and do the same job as the OEM ones do for a lot less money. Will they hold up as well - only time will tell.

Save your money on more important stuff. Get the aftermarket splitter and skirts because there are no advantages spending more for something that will be junk if you hit a curb or bump with it.

This was my logic too. So I went with EOS. They look great and don't require a 2nd mortgage to own.

I have EOS skirts and splitter and I am very pleased with them. I know if I damage them they will be cheap to replace.

As has been stated, GM's side skirts, splitter and other aero are carbon fiber, aftermarket is not. There's your cost right there. Up to you to decide if 100% carbon fiber is worth the extra cost, especially if its just carbon flash painted, as there is no discernable difference in the way it will look compared to the aftermarket.

A. Another stop on the trip/cost from production to you the consumer, adds to cost

B. (Though not in your case) what OEM offers is (probably) covered under factory warranty, adds to cost

C. May add to resale value more than aftermarket
