A reliable source at Lime Rock Park during the ALMS race today informed us that the next Z06 Corvette and C7.R race car will be unveiled together at an upcoming auto show. Our guess? Detroit.
Guessing which one seems like the real question.

Interesting. Very interesting. Hopefully they have something good in store. Judging by the Z51's performance, I think they will. Maybe it'll shutup the C6Z owners too.

Same info I got "off the record" at the Bash
I was told at the Bash by the power train GM reps and Michelin tire reps "off the record" that IF all stays on schedule "a high performance" model would be unveiled in Detroit in Jan of 2014 and on sale in fall of 2014.
My questions to them, How much HP? "no comment" will it be a Z06 type or ZR1 type "no comment" HOW much will it cost "no comment", will it even be called Z06 or ZR1 "no comment" will there be a wide body version,
GM guys "no comment" Michelin guys, I can tell you the tire that has been approved is over 300 wide and WILL NOT fit on the standard Stingray, so what do you think?"
Looking forward to Jan. to see what they cooked up, personally I think it will be supercharged but I would prefer naturally aspirated but I think govt fuel economy regulations are killing that route We will see soon enough

The Big Z - one or two ?
Do you think GM will still build two C7 Z- models ? The ZR-1 came after the Z06 with better performance in the C6. If GM could build a supercharged LT1 model for $85K, won't that make the 427 redundant ? Would a direct injected 427 be called an LT4 ??
Will they use the same supercharger set-up in the ZL-1 and the new CTS-V ? Will they use an Eaton or a Whipple blower this time ?

That would be interesting... I personally don't care about having the Zxx model. But if it's 85K, that would put it in my price range by the time they're available. Makes me wonder if I should lease the first year and buy a Zxx model after the lease is up.
I don't think I'd ever use all that power though.

I say more reliable, because even on the stock bottom end the LS3 can handle 150k miles of trouble free driving as proven by the Callaway 606 Grand Sport. And those miles have came from abusive situations than the average Vette owner would do.. things like: customer test drives, dragstrip & road-racing visits, coast-to-coast driving.
I say cheaper because GM doesn't have to R&D, manufacture and warranty a separate 427 engine that will have an extremely limited application. From 2006 to 2012, the LS7 was only used in one specific model. 2013 was the first year it was available in two different models (Z06 & 427 Vert), but in reality they were same vehicle. In 2014, the LS7 will finally be used in another vehicle (Z28 Camaro) but its application will be limited to around 500 sold.
In the long run, it just makes more sense for GM to drop the 427 platform.. and continue investing into LT1 and supercharged LT4 platform. These engines, and variances of them, can be used in several vehicles (Corvette, Camaro, Cadillac, Trucks, SUVs, etc).. in addition to being cheaper to manufacture, install and provide warranty coverage.
