C7 Hyper Car
Watched an interesting Youtube (
) video on the evolution of the Supercar. The McLaren P1, Ferrari La Ferrari, Porsche 918 and soon, the Acura NSX -- all combining the internal combustion engine and electric motors. I wonder if Chevrolet has the R+D budget to create the ultra C7 that meshes those technologies. As I see it thus far, none of the major American automakers are attempting this in the supercar/sports car category.

NSX, if it ever comes to market, will be a day late and dollar short.
As for the rest, can you afford/want a $500,000 vette truthfully. Does anyone? I mean, when you compare ZR1 to say, the ENZO, I think vettes are doing just fine in their current catagory.

I think you may have missed the OP's point. The C4 ZR-1 and the C6 ZR1 both touched on then-contemporary supercar performance at a price of a bit more than $100K in today's $. Given that track record, I think it is reasonable to believe the Vette team could do it again, making just a few compromises along the way to deliver 98% of a $500K car for about $120K. They may skip it this time around, however, just like they did with the C5...

I get what your saying, but he's referring to this "hyper car" class. Yes, the old ZR-1 was an outrageous 400hp American car, and competitive with twice as expensive Ferrari's, but it wasn't a match at all for the F40/F50 nor McLarren. The new ZR1 did outdo the Enzo, but that was a 6 year old car. Against stuff like a current Pagoni or Konnisegg, its still outmatched.
I will admit though, the current ZR1/Z07 cars were a b***h slap to the super car world when they came out. Even now, I guess I'd agree they do offer 98% of the performance.
This new batch of cars though, is gonna be near impossible for a Corvette to beat. They are playing against million dollar budgets.

They don't have to BEAT Pagoni or Konnisegg, just get within shouting distance

I woulnt expext hyper car tech like the kers system or all carbon fiber componets ect... But I do believe a track dedicated production vette with alot of aero work, 3000 pound weight ,proper downforce and 800hp could give all the new gen hyper cars a run for there money. All for much less money less then 200k. Dont believe me, then take a look at the viper acr and imagine it with an upxated susp and 800 or more hp.

Doesn't drivability, the fun factor and all at some point trump the engineering and hubris exercise that building these hypercars stands for? They are not for drivers.
The P-car 918 is cool - with a V8 from their IMSA Spyder race car Penske ran - but send the added weight and complexity of the hybrid power train back to the bench. It's over reaching.
My positives for the vette is it a relative value at even the ZR1 price point and provides similar performance to cars costing much more (458) and a different experience to peers (GTR).
The vette is somewhat more stuffy than the european cars (which I love) and that's a value that needs to stay with the modern vette even as attempts to broaden its base.
If GM wanted a one off, low volume hybrid hyper car that was more for the passenger, the onlooker, and your status, they should sell it through Cadillac, not as a vette.
