Default I wish GM would integrate this feature in the C7 and all future Corvette's

I really love how the Aston Martin doors swing upwards, avoiding from hitting curbs and high sidewalks.
Some might say it looks cool or gimmicky. It does however serve a nice purpose. I've owned an NSX and a C5 in the past and on some occasions you open the door only to hear it scrape against a curb, sidewalk, or those cement blocks in parking lots. I am sure many of you have experienced this. It would be great if GM can license this from AM for Corvettes. What do you guys think?

I agree, it would be a good addition to avoid curbs.

Good for putting door dings in SUV's!

The complexity of the hinge and door releases though will add weight. You can see that in these photos. Lambo doors are heavier than regular doors.

How do these actually operate? Since you have now added gravity into the siituation (having to open the door upward against the pull of gravity), it must be much harder to open or there has to be some sort of assist built into it. Sounds like added weight and complexity.

That rear window looks just like the C7.

These are far from Lambo doors. I saw nothing to indicate any extra weight at all -- it's only a couple degrees up and cannot put more than 5% more stress on the hinges than opening straight out.

Disclosure: I am not an engineer, nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

You can see the additional gas shock at the bottom of the door that assists in the upward movement.

I don't think it would add more then a couple lbs.

There is probably only 2 door positions, closed and wide open. Anything in between the door will want to close in a hurry. How many times have you been in a parking lot and some idiot has parked real close to you. Now you have to squeeze between the cars, open the door as much as possible and try to snake into the seat. But now you will have another obstacle,,, the door will try to slam shut by gravity.

This has happened to me many more times than my door hitting a curb....good idea but I would pass given the option.

Ok so I did a quick search on Google and this it what it says.

Aston Martin uses a "swan door" design on their Vantage, DB9, Virage, DBS, Rapide and One-77 models. They open outward like a conventional door, but hinge slightly upward as well for better ground clearance.

Here is a picture of the upper hinge
On E-Bay ---> ASTON MARTIN V8 VANTAGE RH DOOR HINGES Price: GBP 12.00 Approximately US $18.13 doesn't look high tech to me.

Clearly. The square of the vertical angle looks more then 6.14 times the horizontal distance, thereby making it incredibly inefficient. If it was less, it would swing wildly open. V^2 must = exactly 6.14(H). Also judging from the length of the wheel studs, I'd estimate the additional equipment for these style doors on the C7 to add a staggering 312lbs. All of this is painfully obvious in the pictures.

Amateurs...

PS. I only stayed at a Holiday Inn once, but have felt it's effects everyday since.

Hmmm... The effects don't seem to be grammatical.

With the gas assist they look like they will shoot open like the hatch on the back... Great if you have a giant garage but I tend to have to squeeze in around bikes, tools, power wheels, extra engines, generator, bounce house, garden tools. Holy hell how do I fit two cars as well? Anyway, getting out of my cars is done a bit gentle as to not ding the crap out of my door on whatever the heck is next to it
