Factory fill oil for C7?
If I'm not mistaken, the Mobil 1 has not been used as a factory fill for '12 & '13 C6's, substituted with a GM Dexos spec'd product. Is this the situation for the C7 as well? I will be at the ALMS race at Road America this weekend and one of the scheduled presentations at the Corral will be one from Mobil 1 oil. Anyone have any confirmation on what oil the C7's will be born with? From my limited understanding, the Dexos is a synthetic blend, and the Mobil 1 exceeds the GM standards.

The list of oils that meet the dexos standard has both synthetic blends and full synthetic oils listed.
Mobil-Exxon makes the synthetic blend oil that goes into all new GM products and it is dexos .
You can also use a dexos spec oil(including a synthetic blend) in older corvettes that used the now obsolete spec which mobil1 oil met and will not harm your warranty.

I thought I read somewhere that this was pure marketing. It would convince a lot of people to purchase oil from their dealer believing it has to be GM branded oil.

Correct however there is no way that I'm aware of that GM test engine oil to see if it was Mobil 1 synthetic or Castrol synthetic or Walmart brand synthetic that I use in my engine so them trying to force me to use Dexo or whatever brand they call their own for my top ups and changes. Perhaps if they priced "their" oil the same as the stuff I buy at Costco or Canadian tire then yeah, maybe if I'm near a GM dealership I will pick up a liter or two and stow them in my hatch but of course they always have to put on their markup.

I believe some of you will be in for surprises. Many dealers still do not know how to change the oil properly on a dry sump system. You have been warned.

GM does not require you to buy your oil from them to maintain your warranty. In fact, it's against the law for them to require that you buy your oil from them in order to maintain your warranty. GM only requires that the oil you put in your car meets their specification, and that specification makes no mention of where the oil has to be purchased.

Dexos, Mobil 1, I don't know, third base.
Since I don't do my own oil changes, I was surprised when the service writer said lucky you got a 2012. Oil change $29.00. Quite a drop from the $69.00 I'd been paying for the Mobil 1 changes on my 07.

But you can use a dexos spec oil(including the cheaper synthetic blend oil) in your 2007 and it will make absolutely no difference. If your 2007 still had a GM warranty, it would still be in effect, after putting in the cheaper(than Mobil1 synthetic) synthetic blend oil that is packaged as AC Delco dexos oil that your Chevy dealer sells/installs.

There is a previous thread on this subject. If you can get the car up on ramps or can rent/use a lift it doesn't seem that hard.

OK, I'm sort of giving away my age here, (but I worked hard to get this old.) I seem to remember when I bought my 64 Corvette, new off the dealers lot, (the only new car that I've ever bought) that I was told that the first oil change HAD TO BE MADE AT ABOUT 600 MILES!
I assume the idea behind that was to clean out all of the small particles of metal in the engine, and I also assume that in the past 50 years they, (Chevrolet) have gotten better at building engines.
What I'm trying to get to, is when is the first oil change recommended?
Want a good CRY? The 64 Convertible listed for $4,037!
