New Magazine test of C7 vs 911
#62
Tuesday afternoon I observed a test between a C7 Z51 and a new 911-991 Carrera S by Americas top automotive periodical at Laguna Seca. Very tight security and also a 730 hp Euro exotic to test as well only not against these two.The C7 and 911 were driven by the ace driver that they normally use. Accurate results came about. You will all be thrilled with the results. It will be out in a month or so.

I hope you know that the money people decide to pay for a car reflects what they are willing to pay to get what they want. In the case of the optioned-up $130k 911S, it represents what the market is willing to pay for that car. It's a personal choice thing.

No, not at all. Just the common garden variety base C7 thats walking on cars 5-7 times its price-point. Get on LagunaSeca.com and look at their calendar. Porsche rented the track on Monday the 19th and Chevrolet on Tuesday the 20th.

Certainly. But, the C7 will definitely draw from the Porsche crowd and not the other way around. Wait until you read some of these tests coming out. Thats the consensus that I've heard.

I think there are Fortune 500 companies that would pay big money to a group of clairvoyants who can predict things like that.

So far, the Stingray/Z51, MRSC, NPP and 7sp seems like the perfect street ride. I think with the wider body/tires and all the other "goodies" that goes along with it will inevitably be released in the Hi-Perf variant(s) will be the actual ticket - no pun intended.

People who are on the fence about the 911 vs C7 will be swayed to the C7 as a result of the article much more than vice versa, I'm pretty sure that's what he meant and it makes sense, regardless of whether some isolated Corvette owners buy a Porsche.

Lol under Guibo's logic magazines don't have to test cars, all they have to do is compare the price of each and since we know price equals what people are willing to pay for it the more expensive car wins the comparison every time.

Im glad the Z51 did well against a 911 4S. That's a pretty good comparison test of performance. The Z51 seems to be the new Grand Sport. I would like the Z51 to go heads up with the C6 GS - ZR1 models. That would be a good barometer of Z51 performance. I guess this wont happen until the dealers have sold all of the C6s.

Notch, I'm lucky enough to live in a area where a lot of these tests are done. I watch for the track rentals then go down and observe the action. There is no doubt that the 911 is a very good car. The problem for Porsche now is that the C7 is significantly faster around the track with now better steering, handling and all around dynamics. The magazines will still stutter in their decisions because of advertising but it's going to be very difficult to deny Corvette it's due.
