If order placed today how long until production
If I were to place an order today (with a delaer that has allocation) What would be the target time until my ar woudl actually be produced? I ae read that it has taken people 6 weeks from 3000, but how long does it take to get to 3000?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have the opportunity to place an order with an dealer in another state immediatly or wait a couple weeks to place with my local dealer (and hope he gets one soon).
Thanks!

this is key: with a dealer that has allocation
I went from initial contact at a dealer (Coughlin) to 3000 in one week....
If so, 6 - 8 weeks is a good guess now, if there are no parts/options that go on back order....

As stated above - getting a dealer with an allocation is key.

All the first 900 dealers know what their allocations are for the next 6-9 months.
How soon you get your car after ordering depends on how many people are in line ahead of you at any particular dealer.
A dealer with 250 allocations that has 200(80%) of them presold will take much longer to get your car than a dealer with 500 allocations with 200(40%) of them presold.
I know of a very small dealer that has an allocation of 2 coupes and 1 convertible for the next 6-9 months. You could get one of the coupes within a week or two as he has none of the three presold(because he is asking $10,000 over MSRP). Of course you would have to take the car he has coming in as it's too late to make changes in color, options, etc.

If the schedule of the last few weeks holds and you get an order placed in tomorrow's consensus the TPW should be 10/14-20. Of course you would have to find a dealer who has an unsold allocation today to get into tomorrow’s consensus.

Ordered my car a few days ago from a large dealer who has an initial allocation of well over 400 for the first 6-9 months. He also has a 200+ waiting list and so far only 12 have dropped out. Thankfully, I don't want a car before next year and it now looks like the end of 1st quarter (March, 2014) for mine.
Good Luck!

You would probably make the reasonable assumption that someone in GM customer service could give you a reasonable estimate of delivery but that assumption couldn't be more wrong.

The way things have been going target production week (TPW) is about 4-5 weeks after consensus. Example: last week's consensus on 9/12 had a TPW of 10/7-13. After production the car will have to go through QC and then shipment which could be an additional 4-6 weeks depending on where you take delivery.

Let's say the 900 dealers have 15,000 allocations for the next 6-9 months, and every one of them is presold. That means that an order placed today wouldn't even be accepted by GM until 6-9 months from today. Then it would take some 4-5 weeks for GM to schedule the TWP and then a week to build it and another week or two for it to get to his dealer.
Of course, not all 15,000 C7's are presold, so it depends on how many of a particular dealer's allocation are already presold. If a particular dealer has 80% of his allocations presold, then 80% of the 6-9 months will have to pass before the car is accepted by GM.(and then assigned a TPW). In this case, one could order his C7 from that dealer today, but it won't have a TPW assigned for some 4-5months from now.

I ordered mine with the dealer on 2/1/13. I was number 16 on his list. My order went to the factory for production on 9/12/13. My Target Production Week is 10/21/13. My hope is that nothing holds it up and that it is ready sooner. I am picking it up at the Museum.

The problem with your logic is that it isn't the TPW that determines how long it takes to get a car after it's ordered. Key word being ordered.

An honest dealer will tell you how many allocations they have and where you stand in that list. They also have an indication of how many allocations they are getting in each consensus (currently weekly).
For example let's say your order is number 50 of a dealer's 100 allocations, he had 30 orders accepted to-date (20 to-go until your slot comes up), and is getting 4 orders accepted per week in each consensus. If the rate holds at 4 per week your order will be accepted in about 5 weeks. After your order is accepted the TPW and shipping interval times start.

Thank you all for your responses. To clarify my initial question a little. If I placed my order with a dealer who has an immediate allocation in the most recent consensus. I assume if a dealer has an allocation in the consensus last week that GM is giving them a build slot? This would be their 17 car out of 28 they were assigned in the first 9 months. So in this scenario how long from the consensus order? Also how long do you have from the time an order is placed to make changes to the order?
Thank you

If their #17 slot was allocated for the 9/12 consensus I think it would be too late to order now. If they are getting #17 in tomorrow's 9/19 consensus then the 4-5 weeks to TPW should hold.

Placed order on 9/5 and the dealer had a slot and was accepted on 9/10. Got a TPW of 9/30 on 9/16 . No parts were on hold is key and dealer MUST have an allocation slot or your order will not get picked up. Now with the plant pumping out 100 to 120 cars a day things are running . This has been my own experience and maybe missed something. This was from a meduim size Corvette dealer and don't know why they had a open slot . I called them two days before I ordered the car. Just got lucky.
