Test drive @Stingray Chevrolet
I decided to take a drive today (in my 08 Z06) and ended up at my local (Stingray Chevrolet, Plant City, FL) dealership.
There were 3 new vettes outside.
Inside there were 6 more. All 8 were sold.......except for the silver
one outside. Steve Hurley (Owner) came over and we started chatting.
He then offered me the keys to the silver one (auto) and said take it out for a spin. He said be sure to put it in the sport mode and try the paddle shifters. SURE Steve, whatever you say!!
I had my reservations (after all, I have owned 10 corvettes w/ 6 of them being Z06s) about how fast it would be.
I was humbled by the experience. 3160 lbs w/480TQ puts it in Z06 territory. The seats were firm, Mercedes firm. At 175 lbs, my butt took up the whole seat.
It was fast, with 1st meeting 2nd really quick. I don't know what the gear ratio was (in the rear end) but it felt good.
The car pulled really nice and I felt it is as quick as my Z.
I think GM has a winner and you know what, the tail lights (which I thought sucked in the pictures I had seen), really fit the overall look of the car once I saw it in person.
Thanks Steve for the eye opening experience.

Read your review with much interest as I too have a Z06. The C7 has a flatter torque curve so maybe it "feels" faster than a Z - but in reality, no way. Thanks for posting.

Shoot, that is not too far from where my mom and dad live. Maybe I should send my dad up there to drive one for me! Actually, he's 88 years old and I'm not so sure I want to do that. But he still drives and is actually a very good driver. Damn, too bad I can't go visit him tomorrow.
Oh well, I have a friend who should have her's soon.

How was the paddle shift experience coming from a manual z06?
Thanks for sharing your insights..

While I can't speak for the C7, I will say this. I have two cars with paddle shifters, but my passion is manual transmissions with actual clutch pedals. I found out very quickly that if you are a manual transmission person, paddle shifting an automatic is like a kiss on the cheek. Once you've really had sex, a kiss on the cheek is no longer satisfying.

Look at the horsepower dyno chart and what happens to the LT1 at 6,000 RPM to 6,500 RPM and then look at the LS7 at 6,000 RPM to 7,000 RPM. Not even close to Z06 territory.

Where did you come up with 480 lb-ft of torque and 3160 pounds? The C7 has 460/465(NPP) lbs-ft of torque and weighs between 3298(base stripped) and 3475 lbs(Z51 loaded up).

And the 2013 Z06 has a dry weight of 3,041. Still lighter than the C7 with more torque and horsepower than the C7.
Below 4500 RPM, the LT1 does feel the same as the LS7 since they have almost identical torque down low, but from 4500 RPM up, the Z06 pulls away.

I can't wait to be able to test drive one. Probably going to be a while as there are no large dealers around here so they won't be getting one for a while.

If I ever find a willing C7 owner I'll let you know how I pull away.

75% of C6 Z06 owners will be quicker in an automatic C7 from a dead stop through the quarter mile. Regardless of horsepower or torque or what any magazine or corvette forum fast list says. I've been to Corvette track rentals and see what joe blow does in his C6 Z06...and it isn't low 12's or high 11's. Some guys are too clouded by what a car is capable of compared to what they can actually do themselves in it.
