This is what is great about car guys...we all see things a little differntly. This may be a generational thing (I'm 48) but I never liked the C3's...hated them. What brought me over to Corvettes was the C4! I know most dont like that generation, but I though it was the first Corvette that looked like it belonged with the exotics. I still love them!

In our case it's not generational being that I am (50). I have a friend that is in his 30s and the C3 was his least favorite as well. I think this makes a prefect point that everyone has their likes and dislikes.

Understandably, people get defensive about their choice in Corvettes because they spend a lot of money on the purchase or work hard on modding. When others point out that they don't like something about it, it's like a slap in the face.

I make a point to try and not feel that way about it because it is one persons opinion and no matter how poorly they convey it, they have a right to it. It should not matter to the owner if someone likes or dislikes the shape of a taillight because it is what it is. If someone loves everything about a C7 other then the taillights, there are vendors, like RPI, that are willing to make products to change it.

On the C6 forum there is a kit that changes the look dramatically to that of a C7. Some like it, some don't. I'm just glad we don't all like the same things. It's make who and what we are/like unique.

Default Oh My God!

So this back and forth is still going on, and on, and on, and on.

Yep, car guys, do have their never ending options and we all do love to voice them as many times as possible I think.

Good luck to you all and my best to this never ending cyclic discussion.

For me...
Round is fine, it is a natural design (shape of Saturn's rings, and owl's eyes and nipples on gals (sorry about that one, my single-person maleness is showing [wife died 3 years ago]).

It is all good. It is great in so many things. And I do love the round string lights and led reflected round designs and the glow strips shaped in circles. But I just do not get the way people want to hold on to something and push their individual concepts over and over and over to the same people who have already heard it so many times.

But hay, why not: right? That is (kinda) what a web-based forum is for: right? To express our views until the listeners stop listening after the 26th time. Yes, I am being sarcastic, I know.

Hay, maybe this group can do a circle design book of 35 chapters in which each chapter says the same thing but uses different words to do so and each chapter can be authored by a single individual. Then we have the last chapter reference the first one for added content, so we just keep people reading in circles (round ones) until they drop dead from last of food and water because they are so interested in the content that they cannot pull themselves away.

He he, yes, a joke with me and others here as the butt of the joke. Sorry.

God, where is Spring. I am getting slap-happy. I need to go find a round Prozac and chill in my round hot-tub I think.

Love it and love ya all,
Nick

Eye mimicry is millions of years old. We can't escape it or move on, as you say. All creatures with eyes use them for a myriad of reasons. Much of our behavior is programmed. A 57 Corvette is more valuable than a 58. 4 eyes are strange. If the C7 used just one lens on each side at the back like they have in the front, the design would endure. The C6 used 6 eyes. Shocking, just like a peacock wing which is used to confuse it's attacker. Look how just having two lights, one bigger than the other looks.

Multi eyes is disturbing like this peacock.

So now you are comparing an adaptation animals have used to trick their predators to the design of the Corvette? What is even happening in this thread? It is silly at this point. You don't like the rear end of the C7 which is fine. However, most people do. You absolutely cannot prove otherwise based on some of your pictures and a strange, yet amusing, hypothesis that has nothing to do with the design of the car.

Please, post this well-established research and perhaps I will. Plenty of people are very attracted to the C7, rear-end and all. It should be interesting to see scientific proof on such a subjective matter.

Default Ugly is beautiful to some, and beauty is ugly to others.

Well, I think you can shout all you want to about all the responses that are posted that (like me love the rear of the C7) and look at all the nice animal pictures and all the pretty drawings. But again (and I will try to be clear this time).

The C7 rear is excellent and it was designed with great "professional" care and skill and knowledge.

Yet some can complain and shout and jump up and down all they want. But at the end of the day, for many of us, it is a solid home run.

I hope you do not mind if some of us stick to our own opinion. As this is really the only thing that really counts.

You think I give a s if you remain ignorant. Chevies used to be happy cars now they carry frowns like German cars. Camaros look mean. Ever seen a happy BMW owner? They start the day off looking at their pissed off car.
The back of a C7 looks like a schnauser. If you back it into your garage so you don't have to see the rear lights, you will have a much better chance of having nice day, trust me.
The back of the C7 is un American. Looks like some Japanese gila monster crawling out the swamps. Check out the Japanese TV show,"Death by Lizard".
Do you know what the peacock symbol above means? You can ignore natures signals all you want at a conscience level, but you won't be able to avoid the effects of the subliminal messages in design.
You have been brainwashed. You are being controlled by the new world order. Read Carl Sagen's book, "The Dragons of Eden" before it is too late. Until then, avoid looking at the back of C7s and the front of BMWs. Get some help now. May the force of the Grand Lizard be with you.

Default OMG - really?

Maybe a good teddy bear is what you need instead of a C7 or a new rear end with a circle?

Oh well. Takes all kinds I think.

They buy a C7, then get on the forum and rag to the world about how poorly GM did in the very design that is making sales records and which they just purchased.

Sounds like the guy who goes to the store and buys a yellow shirt with brown buttons, then goes home, tries it on, looks in the mirror, and then shouts out the bedroom window to the world about how the company should never have offered a brown button shirt and if they only would have put green circles and purple buttons on it, it would be great. And if they would have just listened to him, they would have known better. Mean while back at the sewing center, they just finished boxing up so many boxes of their yellow shirts that they have sold more of them than any shirt they have sold in the past.

Then this guy hears about the record breaking sales, and goes back up to the bedroom window and screams at the world the same thing he just screamed out the same window the day before.

I think there is a word for this type of behavior.

I believe most Corvette enthusiasts would say the '68-'73 rear end captured the Corvette look just right so it became iconic. From '74 through C6 the rear end did not flow, only sections of it could be called iconic.

If the designers went with the '73 look it would be "retro", few would buy it and no one would say "Wow!" Dodge retro, even though its mean machine rarely gets the "holy crap, Wow baby" we hear for the C7.

Mark my words, the rear end will achieve iconic. I'm in my 50's and she makes me laugh, giggle and quiver. My neighbors F430 elicits none of that feeling.

Default And the debate continues.

I for one, was not a Corvette guy until I got my C6. I was not attached to the round tail lights at all. Personally, I love the rear of my Stingray, but if the C8 has different-shaped tail lights, I'm not going to spend my life whining about it on this forum.

SRQStingray, Bunk, Slappy3243, and Nick understand the C7 well.

Shaka is carrying more than a dislike of great design and that is a heavy load to carry.

So I will cut him/her some slack as this kind of attitude carries over into many things in life and they often need some support and help. So I will just say that I agree with the vast majority of people who love this car including the front, side but especially the rear end. It just goes so darn well with the rest of the car. It is indeed iconic. It is a home-run. Like rocket to the top of the charts. It has no issues and I am very supportive of GM's design change. 100% sold.

But I also realize that I (like most) have different likes and dislikes. For example, the shark years and especially the Mako years were the very worst of the Corvette designs in my eyes. When they went to that, I totally lost interest in the car. But my best friend and neighbor was so pleased he ordered one (yellow) before they hit the showroom floor. I helped him fix it a lot.

I chuckled a bit with him because he loved what turned my interest off. But back when the 1988 anniversary edition came out I went right out and got that one. Even though it lacked power; but Lingenfelter took care of that for me just fine. When the C7 was shown I was sold. Solid performance with a rear that looked far better than my 1995 or the 1988. And it looked far better to me than what I call the jelly bean look of the 2012-13. And it had real performance. So I plunked cash for it before orders were being taken. The rear was the best part of the entire cars appearance. It was new, it was cool, it is an iconic start. Chevy said that the older school Corvette crowd will not like the change, but I am 67 and I love it - a lot - the best part of the entire new change (other than engineering - which is great for 60K.

Moral of the story. Round is great for some, especially old school and for those that like it, like Shaka, (hopefully he will be more respectful) but not for all and the new rear end is totally too tool for human words..... End of Story.
