Protection from joy riders.
Seems more and more posts are addressing detailers, service departments, etc going for joy rides. Simple answer fellow owners. Put the car in valet mode when you drop it off.

Please help me understand how this will prevent joy rides. From what I understand valet mode simply locks the nav screen, glove box and fuel door. I'm not aware of any thing else that would prevent a joy ride. Not saying you are wrong just that that's news to me if true.

I have a valet mode on two of my cars non Vettes. Both allow you to set the top speed the car can go and a max distance as well. I'm sure the dealer could override that function though.

The only person that drives my performance car is the shop manager and the tech. The keys get locked in the managers office.
Other than that, simply no one drives my car unless I am there.
Don't let detailers drive it, don't let it get valeted, no one.

Have to take the "I did know what I was talking about" stance on this one. There is no reference to the Valet Mode in the manual. I actually thought it was a legit valet and put the car in V4 mode. Shutting up on this one now....

Well, when you bring the car in for any service, the first thing they do is record the mileage. So, when you pull into the service area, pull out a piece of paper, and write it down for yourself. Also write down the lifetime engine rev number. Then when the service writer checks the mileage, compare it to yours, and put yours in your pocket. Without a word being said about it, this car will be "off limits" to 'joyrides'.

It would be nice if GM added a true Valet mode, though.
I wonder if a third party Valet-Mode app would be practical to implement using the MyLink SDK?
I don't think the API's in the SDK give access to things like shutting the car down, or limiting its speed, but maybe they could record the locations driven and speed. Maybe some ominous warnings on the display would help demotivate potential joy-riders.
