3m carbon fiber on the roof
has anyone thought about putting 3m carbon fiber adhesive sheet material on the roof? i think it is removable w/o harming the paint. or it could be put on the clear roof panel.
tacky or a good look?

3m sells both finishes. other companies make a similar product.

I can't understand why anyone would order this car with anything but the exposed CF roof.
But anyways, eventually when I buy a used C7, if it doesn't have the exposed CF roof, I'll go the 3M way even though it sort of goes against my grain.

Only on one side... actually the new generation CF films are quite good with texture and a three dimensional look that reflects light similar to the real thing. Everything ages especially with a lot of sun exposure. Vinyl films can be removed with no damage to the original surface. Time will tell how the OEM exposed carbon fiber top ages with exposure to the elements and ultra violet rays from the sun.

It is your car go crazy... if you don't like it take it off....however anything that is just for looks and not functional in some positive way will get thumbs down from some people.

Hmm-I did put it on the Vette model my daughter bought me for my birthday! Looks good-on the model. Don't think I would put on the outside of the car however. I have the CF option and it looks great, especially with the black wheels.

Guys, I've seen many, many carbon fiber pieces put on exterior parts of many different cars. It looks good-the 3M product is excellent. And if it's put on well, it looks great.

Why wouldn't somebody order the exposed CF roof?
Because I'm not paying GM $2000 to take the paint off the roof that is already carbon fiber and clear coat it.
I like the painted roof look better anyways.

As for using 3M vs the real thing just because of the edges seems silly but hey do your thing.
I personally find it "ricer" to cover things, interior or exterior bits, with CF film poser like. The use of CF in the auto industry is intended for strength and weight reduction not aesthetics although many will argue that. My reply would be "posers" have made it intended for aesthetics.

I've seen it and it's very fake looking. I would never do it on car of this price. It's really for dressing up 85 Honda Civics.

Not something I would consider. Just my opinion.
