Production of 2014 Camaro ZL1 and 1LE Suspended Because of SUMMER tires - C7 issue?
I wonder if this is going to apply to Corvettes as well? I pulled this from an F-body forum which I am a member of.
Good afternoon, Camaro Comrades!
The purpose of this note is to update you on two ordering activities impacting 2014 Camaro -- and because of your involvement in the Camaro Enthusiast community, we wanted you to know--
Effective Thursday, November 21, 2013, Chevrolet will temporarily suspend order processing for the 2014 Camaro ZL1 model and the SS Performance Package (RPO: 1LE) due to the effect of cold weather on the performance tires for these models. Again, it is only a temporary suspension that does not impact the Camaro LS, LT and SS models ordered without 1LE. Order processing for the 2014 Camaro ZL1 and the SS Performance Package (RPO: 1LE) will resume on Tuesday, February 11, 2014.
The suspension of ordering will impact Camaro production from January 2014 to March 2014. It is expected any ZL1 or SS models with the Performance Package (RPO: 1LE) produced through December 2013 will be shipped to dealers.
The other ordering issue involves the 2014 Camaro Convertible beige top (RPO: 67T). The beige convertible top will end production for the 2014 model year during the month of January 2014 -- due to our Camaro Spring Edition Package that will go into production then. The last opportunity for dealers to submit orders for convertibles with the beige top (RPO: 67T) will be the Dealer Order Submission Process (DOSP) cycle that starts Thursday, December 5, 2013 and concludes Tuesday, December 10. 2013 -- therefore -- if you desire a 2014 Camaro with a Beige convertible top - you need to visit your dealer immediately to place your order.
The end of beige top production does not impact the availability of the black top (RPO: 19T). As a reminder, the recently announced 2014 Camaro Spring Special edition, when ordered with a convertible model, will include a blue convertible top.
Thank you for you continued enthusiasm for all things Camaro!

Hopefully a situation unique to those tires made specifically for the Camaro. Corvettes have come from the factory with exclusively summer performance tires for decades and the new tire developed by Michelin for the C7 is not the same tire as that on any Camaro.

True, but given the warnings about driving our C7's in the cold are clearly stated in the manual, it makes you wonder what GM will do for liability reasons.

Interesting that there is no news on this on the Internet, except on Camaro Forums . . . . . . . . can the OP from the forum where you extracted the info, provide the Chevrolet document for us all to read & learn?

Lawyer talk. Standard warnings for all summer performance tires. Situational awareness IS important because the tires do not perform nearly as well when cold and all drivers do need to be aware of that.

Yeah, I know. I just figured the Camaro would have the same warnings and not be in this situation.

To the best of my knowledge, they come with; Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G: 2 Extreme Performance Summer Tires . . . which because of the directional design and the larger rear tires sizes, requires a specific tire for each of the 4 corners.

I suspect this comes under the legal category of "protecting idiots from themselves". The web is replete with pictures of "Z-rated" (or equivalent) tires cracking when exposed to cold temperatures. Notwithstanding the warnings from manufacturers, people drive anyway and risk tire failure and related consequences.

Chris responded only by saying the information came from the man himself, Scott Settlemire. Chris and Scott go way back and I completely trust Chris' word. It is bound to be in official writing soon though.
