Default Aftermarket Heated Seats question

Has anyone had experience with doing aftermarket heated seats? On any modern car really.

The reason I ask is because the ONLY option I really need from the 2LT is the heated/cooled seats and I'm not paying $4K for it. I don't need an upgraded stereo or a HUD (although cool).

Does anyone know if the 1LT seats comes capable of upgrade without much hassle?

My climate ranges from 0 degrees to 105 depending on the season and weather so it's a very desirable feature.

I'm going with black interior so I gain nothing from 2LT aesthetically.

Here is the first thing I saw...
http://www.heatedseatkits.com/installation.pdf

I'd go with the OEM system...but then I want seat cooling more than seat heating.

You also lose the auto-dimming mirrors (Great for those SUVs following you at night), the subwoofer for the radio, the universal home remote, and the memory package.

I assume without the memory package, the easy exit feature is also disabled, and possibly the auto change side mirrors in reverse (I hate that anyhow).

You might not be able to get the auto heat/cool seats with the OEM system (turns heat on if below 50 degrees I think, auto cool if above 80) when remote started, as it likely won't integrate into the main unit, but you'd have to check the OEM details for that. You might also have issues running either while in accessory mode and/or auto shutting off if they battery drains too far (I assume it will be one or the other issue).

I also believe you can't get the navigation option in the 1LT, which personally is one of the reasons that pushed me into the 2LT (along with the sub, mirrors, heat/cooled seats).

But $4k is a lot of money if you don't want most of the above.

Check with your local uphostery shop you may be surprised how inexpensive they could do it for.

Also I know folks who have a plug in electric blanket. Spread it over the seat plug it into the lighter. Sort of kind of hoakie but for $50 and no alterations to the car may be a good alternative.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I have a few different choices to consider then.

I'd really prefer 3LT Kalahari but I can't coin for that.

I've seen some good jobs, and some not so good. If all you're looking for is heated, it shouldn't be very hard to get good results.

The heating pads and ventilation fans are very inexpensive. About $80/seat for pads and controls, and $150/seat for the ventilation fans and controls. So to do heat and ventilation for both seats would be about $460 in parts.

The problem is installation. They need to be properly installed to work well and not damage you seats. Any high-end upholstery shop should be able to remove your seat covers, install the heating pads, cut the foam and install the fans, then reinstall your seat covers. I have no idea what they might charge.

Form rules do not allow linking to non supporting vendors. Just do an Internet search for: "seat comfort kit"

On the GM website the NAV is available for $795 on a 1LT package

But, for 2015, you have to get the PDR and NAV together and it is $1795 I Believe. I have that combo in my 1LT.

I installed heaters in the seats in my Morgan. It is not a difficult install, but you do have to remove the leather covers from the seat to install the heating pads. Don't know about what is involved in the cooling set up.

The idea of seat 'cooling' never entered my mind before but I just finished a cross country trip in my new C7 LT2 Z51 - and I LOVE THE SEAT COOLING!!!! Used it on many of the warm days, that was a long trip and it really helped. On the other hand my wife did not like it - glad you could control individual seats as I loved it.

If I was to add my own heated seats I'd do it like Cadillac used to do. That was three temps of seat back and bottom or just the seat back without the bottom. Great in the warm months for that stiff back.

Perhaps some owners still have the same questions.

I added heated seats to my C5 and love them. Not terribly difficult to do.
The cooling??

I agree with your decision. I chose the 1LT and have no regrets. I have installed heated seats in the past with no issues whatsoever. They were installed in my SUV. Never a problem. Everyone has his or her own reasons to buy 1/2/3 LT models. I have -0- regrets about saving the money. I purchased a Z51 instead. Again -0- regrets as well. I do have NAV. I like saving the money. You decide for yourself.
