Stingray's expected depreciation
I really don't care about these things, and am excited to get my C7 when it finally gets picked up by BG, but I saw this on MSN and thought I'd share it. They expect the 2014 Stingray to maintain 55.7% of it's original value after 3 years:
Base Retail price: $51,000
Residual percentage: 55.7 percent
Expected value after 3 years: $28,407
http://editorial.autos.msn.com/ameri...=autos_4765#22
This is also interesting as it relates to lease prices, which are based on expected residual value after 3 years, so the higher the residual value maintained, the lower the lease price. A relatively high loss %, such as the Stingray's 45% loss (maintaining 55%) means lease prices are higher than if it held it's value better.

I expect most cars are in the 55-60% range after 3 years.

The data is from Automotive Lease Guide (ALG).
"Automotive Lease Guide has been forecasting automotive residual values for more than 50 years, and is considered an industry benchmark for this calculation."
Retaining 55.7% is really pretty good. Toyotas, Mercedes, and Porsche seem to hold their values best, but this data puts the Stingray right in the conversation.

Considering the larger demographic and demand of the C7. I would imagine that it will hold its value better. It's not like GM is able to meet the demand. And the price of the C7 may go up because of this.

Lola will go to one of my boys when I can't drive her anymore. She's my 1st and last 'vette but I've started making her a permanent home. The painting was finished this afternoon, next the floor tiles from Racedeck and some 'vette art for the walls .

The paint looks good. Get as much neon lit stuff as you can. Always really brightens a place up

Don't forget the small lift for the oil changes?
Back on topic:Who the hell knows what they will sell for?The friggen car was released a couple months ago.If we could foresee the future half the hot rodders in the 60's would have purchased 67 427's instead of real estate.I'll be watching big time!

I have had Corvettes since 1971. I have a new 2014 Stingray. I just sold my 2006 z51 convertible. My total all in purchase price on the 2006 with tax etc less my sale price to a private individual was about $22,000 for 8 years of ownership. That is GREAT depreciation!
I'm not worried about what somebody thinks the Corvette is worth in 3 years!

$22K for eight years sounds pretty good to me, btw. On ordinary sedans I have owned for between three and six years depreciation has worked out usually to a little more than $3K/year.

I agree with all posts. Just great to see the Stingray in the top batch of models for expected depreciation. It's yet another dispassionate/ non-biased vote for this car, which should make buyers happy.

And I thought your original message, as captured in my first post, had negative connotations. Go figure

I willing to take any financial hit. Plan on keeping it for a long time, then giving it to my son at some point. That is "priceless".

Those numbers are based on the averages. I'd be willing to bet most of the members of this forum take care of their cars a little better than the average person.

Yes, I am all positive about this Stingray! I put my money where my mouth is, and I ordered one. Just happy to see yet another great piece of news on it Positive reviews from non-biased sources are especially important to me, as I have never driven, nor been a passenger in a Corvette of any generation.
