Default 1st oil change

I have a 2014 stingray Z51 with 600 miles. I will be having a knee replaced at the end of the month. I plan to have the oil changed with 5-30 Mobil1 and a m1-113 oil filter. Any problems? Can I switch to Mobil 1 and not use GM's new oil.?

why would you change the oil already , and what does that have to do with your knee?

Many people believe a change early gets out mfg debris....I'll change at 1500.. Read your manual concerning DEXOS for what to use....I use Mobil 1 extended performance ....and Mobil 1 m-113 filter

I won't be able to get in the car for several months and I live in Missouri and put my vettes away in November and bring them back out in March, depending on the weather. I usually change my oil prior to putting them away. I just thought I would do the same with my new car. Is it best to leave the oil in longer for break-in?

No problem. Mobil 1 5W-30 is certified to the Dexos standard. You will see the Dexos logo on the front of the Mobil 1 Jug.

Do I have to leave the GM factory oil in the car for break-in or can I change it now?

you can change it anytime, but i would change it as soon a it was coming out of storage, you could argue the additives for break in are good for the down time

Sounds good. I am a few miles east of Zona Rosa. I am waiting for my C7 from Hendricks to arrive.

Changing your oil before the OLF says it is needed is a giant waste of money as well as a waste of natural resources.

You should always change the oil before storage to get rid of combustion chemicals in the oil. Those chemicals can corrode metal over the storage period,

I'm not saying the will ruin the engine during the storage period, but new oil will be much better for the engine during that time.

There is nothing special about the factory fill in the Corvette (it's the same AC Delco synthetic blend you can get at the dealer), so you can do whatever you want, but I personally would leave it in for a little while longer. Some manufacturers, such as Honda for instance, do use a special break in oil that is loaded with moly, and they definitely recommend leaving it in long enough to aid in the break in process.

I guess he is having the fluid in his knee replaced and wants to change the oil in the Stingray at the same time?

Hope the surgery is simple and no problems Luvlake.

Default Non Z-51 oil change

I decided it was time for the thousand mile oil change. I was about three days late so it's the 1684 mile will change.

I grabbed my 9/16 and 5/8 wrenches, but it turns out that the 15 mm wrench is the right size...metric go figure.

The Mobil1 filter fits perfectly

I'm not sure what additives were in the oil, but it came out looking like a nuclear green color.

It only took six quarts, but I'll have to check it again tomorrow and top it off.

That green color is most likely due to some sort of dye being added to the oil just so that QC can easily spot leaks on that new engine if they occur.

Im curious if the green color is dye for leak detection or some break in additive or assembly lube. Camshaft break in lube is usually some funky color like that.
