The true definition of freedom is not giving a rats behind about what other people think. I wear what ever I like and could care less about what other people think about it. besides i think my wife bought me a pair for Christmas

I would personally wear some fingerless driving gloves just because i get sweaty palms while driving and am not overly fond of what that does to steering wheels over time...especially to the stitching. That said, I haven't actually worn gloves while driving a car...well there was one time me and my best friend were driving a chevy cavalier with full motorcycle racing leathers and helmets around town just for laughs...

You know I was starting to think this forum was full of boring old men. But after the overwhelming responses to my driving glove idea... I feel like I've found a perfect dysfunctional family. With that said...
I found my driving gloves but have to wait for Xmas to open. I'll be sure to post pics. Oh and any other member that gets driving gloves for Xmas please share what kind you have.

If gloves were good enough for Zora, maybe they still are today....

What no final pictures of the gloves? Did Santa think you were naughty and not leave you a set??

I hope everyone realizes that the manual in the Corvette still labels it as a "Glove Box". Just to add to the fun, this was an entertaining post!

Cheers

Nowadays the grip issue has been largely resolved with the advent of the "soft" steering wheels. Cold weather might bring out a pair if you are driving with the top down in lower temps, but as far as grip, not very important anymore.
You are exactly right. I have a pair of string back driving gloves I use when driving my Morgan.
The car has a 15" wooded steering wheel and the gloves give a good grip on the wheel, especially if your hands get sweaty.

With the Covette, I have found no need for the gloves.

Well, here are some ideas, one can go to a Harley store and get HD fingerless gloves - they are OK and have padding to protect from the bike's vibration. HD also makes winter gloves with built in warmers.
I got a pair of fire retardant gloves that I purchased for Pocono raceway track-days, but they go well past the wrist.
I also saw a pair of brown leather driving gloves at Porsche, about $350 a pair.
James Bond had a pair of mink gloves, but they weren't for driving.

Anyway, this is a fun topic, some really good remarks.

Earlier in my career I reported to a recent, new-hire sales manager. We attended a customer event where he chose to drive his mid-90s era Saturn sedan. The vision of him putting on his black leather driving gloves to drive his Saturn has scarred me for life as a result. Unless I'm participating in a 24-hour racing event, no driving gloves for me...

Some very funny posts here. I have a pair of brand new, 20-year-old Burberry driving gloves I have really never worn in years--still sitting in my armoire.

However during the 5-6 HPDE track days a year I run, I found that 2 really good pairs of baseball batting gloves serve the dual purpose of keeping my hands dry and my grip on the wheel firm.

I would venture the guess that most don't drive everyday with them at the risk of being pretentious but that never stopped me. If the snow wasn't on the ground I might be tempted to get the C7 out of storage and be pretentious all over town.
