An interesting comparison of 2 seater sales
As much has been written about the C7's sales roll out (and the C6's end of generation), I thought I would compile some numbers of 2 seaters (plus 911 and GT-R) for all to see, January through November 2013, U.S. sales ONLY.
Make of it what you will, it is interesting that we probably won't see sales on ANY 2 seater like the C6 roll out in 2005 (37,000 units) which is a slightly inflated number because the 2005 model year was produced longer (dealers had 2005 C6's on the lot in August 2004 and I seem to remember it was produced later into the summer of 2005, waiting for the 6 speed auto for 2006 model year).
Here you go:
Mazda Miata: 5,504 units
Porsche Boxster: 4,370 units
Porsche Cayman: 3,043 units (NO sales until April listed, new generation)
Porsche 911: 9,614 units
Nissan GT-R: 1,158 units
Nissan 370Z: 6,092 units
Viper: 532 units (NO sales until April listed, new generation)
Corvette: 14,486 units (6,656 in October/November, one would assume almost all C7's)
Jaguar F-Type: 2,065 units (Sales beginning in May, no sales prior)
BMW Z4: 2,289 units
M-B SLK: 4,364 units
Jimmy
PS. I have edited this to reflect mistakes I made initially (like including the Subaru/Scion twins which are 4 place cars) and tried to keep it to cars that could (!) be Corvette competitors (exception being the Miata). I don't see much need in including really high end 2 place cars (like the M-B SLS AMG which, at $201,000 base is not a Corvette competitor....sorry, Joe)

Corvette: 14,286 units sold(6,456 in October/November, one would assume that based on C6 sales in Aug/Sept and projected into Oct/Nov that MAYBE 5,300 of the 6456 were C7's).

FWIW, August was 655 units, September was 831.

My bad, I didn't know the Subaru/Scion twins were 4 seaters....oh well. I included the GT-R and 911 because they are often spoken of in the same breath with Corvette. Obviously, the Miata/Subaru/Scion aren't Corvette competitors but I was trying to give a feel for the 2 seater market. I could not find Ferrari/Lambo numbers, but I didn't look very hard!
The 2013 numbers for the Z4 are 2,289 units, January - November 2013.
The source I'm using (goodcarbadcar) does not break out the M3 from other 3-series BMW's. So, when you are looking at 911 numbers, that's ALL the various versions (what are there, like 20 these days?), Corvette the same (Base/GS/Z06/ZR1)
And finally, I never see the Subaru/Scion twins either but they're selling them somewhere (24,880 units combined this year).
Jimmy
PS. Hey Bill, I edited the original post and removed the Subaru/Scion twins and added the Z4 and Jaguar F-Type (forgot about that one).

Ah man, I thought I had all the 2 seaters....
I left out the SLK also (do they still make that car, I haven't seen one in years)?
I am going to look it up now....
Jimmy
EDIT: Shows what I know...M-B sold 4,364 SLK's in 2013, I'll add it to the list. It is hard for me to believe that Porsche sold only 6 more Boxsters than M-B sold SLK's

I don't know anything about sales trends throughout the year, but why don't you see sales of the new C7 next year being like the C6 roll out in 2005? Based on Oct/Nov 2013, couldn't it be close?

Wow! They have already produced almost 10,000 C7s? And I'm told there are many customers on waiting lists. Since this is still 2013 I suspect the number of new C7s produced will approach 30,000. What do the rest of you think?

I agree that there are some cars that are priced a little higher than the Corvette. But when I initially read your title and post it made no mention of two seaters under a certain price, so I thought you were comparing all two seaters.

I was going to do all the 2 seaters but I forgot SO many and frankly, I'm tired of doing it, so I put a price cap on to cover my laziness!
