Default C7 Stingray - next horsepower increase?

I just want get some feedback on when the next possible horsepower increase will be for the base Stingray. I know based on history's past…it's usually a couple of years. But with the speculated introduction of the A8 coming in 2015…will that possibly come with a horsepower increase?

I guess I've always coveted that magical 500hp number. If that ever happened I would forego the Z06 and stick with the Z51.

What are people's thoughts?

Thank you

Your post will most likely get a lot of guesses. My guess is as a Z06 seems likely for 2015, a horsepower increase will be included.

He's asking about a horsepower increase on the base model though.

My guess would be that we won't see an increase in horsepower on the base model for at least 3 or 4 model years.

All speculation at this point. But my prediction is you won't see any hp increase outside of any hi-po model on the C7. And with the aggressively ramping CAFE regs, expect to see a hp decrease and hybrid gas engine/electric drive for C8.

I doubt that a horsepower increase is in the future with the C7's current power plant ( V-8 ) as government mandates for gas milage are going to get rather strict. They are going to do something creative to get us the Z06 and not have it hurt GM's fleet mileage, still keeping it out of gas guzzler range. I really don't think that there is any real chance of seeing V-8"s doing much in mass produced autos. Could be a chance with turbo V-6 engines in the near future. Or maybe they will just put jet engines in them and burn 30,000 pounds of fuel per hour.

Sorry about that. I think your guess of 3 or 4 years on the base is good for now.

While the CAFE standards are going way up in the next few years and will be hard on the auto industry, They've had a number of years to get ready for it and the LT1 IMO, has a lot on the table yet for available HP/TQ increases. Forget the Z06 for a minute. If GM already hit the wall on hp/tq increases and the 460hp with NPP was it for years to come, then there's no more incentive to buy a new C7, so think about that for a minute. A few cosmetic changes alone isn't enough to drive sales after years 1 & 2. Whether they go FI or stay N/A is anyone's guess but count on future HP increases at least until they go AWD/Electric version which I don't see anytime soon on the Vette's future...

You and many others....Which is why it likely wont happen.....Since it would take away from z06 sales.

If GM wants to get creative, in 2-3 years they could keep the base power the same as today and offer a high output version , say 490 hp , as a $2495 option N/a on the base car , and available only on the second or top tier car.

Speculation, of course...

Raise fuel pressure to 2900lbs and static
Compression to 12.5

Throttle-less DI

CNC ported heads

2017. I have no basis for this other than history, but come back when the '17's are introduced and I'll bet I'm right.

I believe for the C6 base Vette, the initial 400 HP was raised in 2008 to 436 HP [including NPP], if the same trend continues, it will be 2017 before we see a change. Obviously, it all depends on sales volume and when GM wants to refresh the cycle and encourage us to order a replacement C7.1.

Unless you're racing this car, it's got plenty of power for anything you need to do on the street. I drive actual race cars and it's got more than enough power for me on the street. Sure it's cool to do performance mods to the car, but this thing already friggen gets up and goes. For me personally, I don't see a need to void the warranty to add more power. I'll stick to my appearance modifications and enjoy the power that it's got, which in California traffic, is more than I can use 90% of the time anyway.

Of course if you're taking it to the track, then that's a whole different story and the above does not apply.

I thought that too but the Corvette Chief Engineer decided against the twin turbo V-6 that is now offered in the Cadillac CTS-V because it wouldn’t give him the mileage figures he wanted. Don
