My weather in BG...brrrr
South Alabama girl not used to the cold. A little worried about the tires in this weather. Flying in on the 6th and leaving on the 7th. Driving South on 65 so will drive out of it. I guess take it slow and easy.

At least no snow! You'll be OK but don't accelerate or corner at extreme speeds.

Love that color.
My experience is leaving heated garage (museum even warmer) the tires are fine on the cold roads, but you don't want to let the tires cool down if you can keep them warm. So, my advice is leave directly from the museum and have a very fast food dinner as you proceed south. Then be very careful when you leave hotel in the morning because tires will be cold.
Have fun and be safe.

Temps were in the low 20's when I left Bowling Green. Drove 2 days (1,400 miles) in temps below 40 and no issues whatsoever. Just stay away from snow and ice!
Congrats and enjoy!

it still will be a very enjoyable ride considering it's a brand new Corvette and you've just completed the Museum and Plant tours.

think of it this way: the engine is "exploding" every mile via combustion, and it will take many miles for the oil to warm up to operating temp, if it ever gets there. your tires, in 16 degree weather, will take a very long time to warm up to operating temp if it really ever gets there, too. so, your original post about taking it easy may extend for the entire day(s).

Thanks a lot for this post.
We are due in BG 1-8. So we will welcome the warming trend Wednesday. Up to the hi 20's.
It was 70 degrees yesterday in Tucson AZ.
Cooler today, high likely to max out at 68. Start the New Year with a blast of chilly weather.

thanks I remembered your post from a little while back...hopefully it will warm a little more than the predicted temps...8 hour drive home, should hit the 40's about 5 hours south of BG.

Even though it is cold in BG your car is not outside, it is inside the museum where it is warm and your tires are warm. The roads will be cold but if they are clear, you will have no problem if you just take it easy with the car. You are supposed to keep it below 3500 RPMs for the first 500 miles, so if you follow the break in instructions you will be taking it easy.
Since your ride home is only 8 hours you have the ability to make the trip in one day, depending on the time you leave the museum. I took delivery on 12/11 with VetJazz and G200 Pilot, and when we arrived for our 7:45 AM appointment it was 18 degrees in BG. I will say that since I am from SW Florida, it was damn cold to me! We decided to break our trip up and take a few days to road trip a little with new friends. We stopped at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville and celebrated the first night. The cars sat out in the freezing cold all night. Here is a pic of three verts the next morning with frost on them.
Our tires were definitely cold that morning, but we took it easy and as we traveled south the weather warmed up a little bit. Just be smart and don't try to jump on it until after you get it home and you will be fine!

BTW after you drive a couple of miles the tires do warm up so they won't be quite as squirrelly as you might expect. However, just be cautious and remember, once you get home and it later warms up...then you drive it like you stole it!!
