I know a grandmother who drives a 606 horsepower Callaway GS. She's not afraid to put her foot into it.

Who's to say who is mature enough to handle 300 HP, 400 HP, 500 HP or 600 HP...you?

Do you speak for everyone, or just yourself?

This will be my first high horsepower and high torque car, I would like to hear some driving tips so I don't kill myself. What should I not do?

isn't enough tire

on cup tires you might be able to get a little more into it but it's hard to drive a car with that much power in anger on the street, even if you drove on slicks you wouldn't be able to maintain heat in them. you can go from zero to paul walker pretty quick

Only if you're scared. The rest of us get a rise out of it.

it depends on whether or not you survive your first experience with applying too much power too quickly in the wrong situation.

I bought a year old 365 horse c2 with positraction (first posi I had driven). the day I picked it up was raining. on the way home, I filled it with gas. pulling out of the station, I floored it and got 90 degrees sideways in a heartbeat. got off it and recovered, no damage. had it 7 years, never had a problem again because I now understood that the car could get out of safe limits quickly if you pushed it. so you take time to learn the limits.

a similar situation 40 years later, in a modified c5 with over 400 horses and a high stall torque converter. drove it 2300 miles back home after picking it up on the east coast, no problems. first night back, was in a hurry to get to a store for an electronic part for my tv remote before the store closed. making a right turn, punched the gas and got most of the 400+ horses applied within a second while making a right turn from a stop. turned the wheel to line up in the left lane, went there and shot immediately to the right lane while trying to correct with steering, at the same time getting off the throttle. regained control, no damage. for an instant, I thought the steering has disconnected but it was just so much power applied so quickly that both wheels were spinning for an instant. lesson learned, high stall torque converters can be like rattlesnakes, so learn the limits.

my point; if you have a car that has a lot of power, learn it's and your limits in a safe environment before it bites you.

if you don't feel confident and haven't learned what it's limits are, don't get high on testosterone or overconfidence on the spur of the moment. use self restraint and live a long and enjoyable life.

I'm your huckleberry

Though not a daily driver , I recently took my 850HP , ZL1 from Cali to Florida and back and put it on several dragstrips and auto-x tracks

Though I will skip on the Z06 , i will be going for 700HP goal with my next C7 ! It's about driving responsible on the roads and saving the performance for the tracks!

There are those of us who have had outrageous horse power cars for years and know how to handle them because we drive them at the track.

Then there are those who have never had a performance car, have no idea of the power and purchase a brand new Corvette. Carol Shelby created the 427 Shelby Cobra unfortunately not many could handle a 10 second street car in the 60s. I am sure we will see pictures of C7s wrapped around trees & etc.... as we did with the C6, C5 & etc....

Today we have traction control, active handing and a host of other nannies to keep us safe. Unfortunately, none of these can defy the laws of physics nor fix Stupid.

Meh, I dunno if its mostly old farts buying them then they may be in for a world of hurt, but I had bikes that cost less than $10g that would stomp a Z06 or ZR1 or pretty much anything this side of a bugatti veyron. Soooo my guess is if you got the scratch to afford the car you can handle driving it (Paul Walker not withstanding).

I also disagree w/ the other poster however that a high HP car can be too much to handle and takes the fun out of it, sometimes it is nice to just put around w/ ALLLLL that power on tap under your right foot. Just knowing it is there and feeling the absolute ease w/ which the car goes down the road is nice too. As is the sound of a lopey cam, tingy headers, and burbly exhaust....

oooohhh a internet tuff guy...smell this.

Its way harder to use all that power on a bike. Capable of and actual defeating a supercar with a bike are two different things junior.

My guess is you laid waste to exactly zero real zr1's or zo6's or any other supercar on your superbike.

But hey if you did I hope it was at a track.

The great thing about our great country is the freedom to do and buy what we want/can afford, even if it is illogical. I can't drive my C7 at it's limit on the street or at the track, but boy, do I love it.

This is Chevrolet saying to the rest of the automotive world "The King is back ..how do you like us now?" It's good to be King.
What he said.....

This is true... except I'd suggest the vast majority of drivers can't when they are pushing the car hard. Most "think" they can drive cars like this near the limit but they don't really even know their own limit. This isn't a criticism and I was that way myself... probably still am to an extent. When I started tracking the car, I quickly realized I wasn't as "good" as I had previously thought (many come to this realization) and my personal limit was lower than I had thought. After hundeds of hours on the track, I still have so much to learn and improve.

Anyone without a lot of time learning how to push this car and then attempts to push a Z06 to its limit will either get lucky or end up kissing a pole Lots of people have this much (or more) power but never really push the car close enough to its limit too.
