Default 2015 Corvette base models will be deprived of 8 speed automatic transmission... NO!!

I am sooooooo bummed... apparently the 2015 Stingray will be deprived of 8-speed automatic transmission in the base 2015 Corvette Coupe and Convertible. It's looking like it will be 2016!!!

Tadge Juechter told AutoGuide the hold-up derives from a load of electronic calibration that must be done to match the 8L90 to the Stingray’s motor. “You would think, ‘OK, you’ve validated the high-horsepower one, so validating the low-horsepower one is like falling off a log, you just judge it.’ But that’s not true,” Juechter said.

As many had predicted. I'm not at all surprised.

Wow, so they're carrying this nearly-decade-old (if I'm not mistaken) 6-speed into the 2nd year of C7 production also??? Isn't that thing getting really long in the tooth? Damn. And I'm guessing a DCT is all but out of the question at this point.

I guess I'll be getting the manual afterall.

Looks like I save some money this year.... I will not get a C7 until the 8-speed goes in. The wait continues.. Disappointed, but now I can enjoy my C6 a little longer....

Wouldn't surprise me if GM saw the reaction from potential 2014 buyers, and possibly a slowdown in sales for the 2014, and decided it would shore up the 2014 sales by not making the A8 available next year in the base car.

Rats. This is why I didn't get a 2014. Looks like I'll be waiting another year!

I guess going for 2014 was a good decision then for me, there was no way I can wait for 2016 & manual is not an option.

i kept on saying that nobody knows for sure if the 8 speed was going to be on the 2015 even though numerous folks kept on asking the question "Are the people who bought the A6 in the 2014 regretting their decision with the A8 coming out" etc.. I have to laugh about it now and say. I love my A6. I got a great deal and am driving it. The paddle shifters are pretty dang responsive for me and it is a great car. Quit waiting as new technology will come out every year. Every year a new something comes out and it is not guaranteed for 2016 either....

Really not a surprise. Smart actually. By keeping the production number low the first year its much easier to work out any issues.

Not for nothing, haven driven the A6 in the C7, unless you care about the extra MPG or are competing where the extra fraction of a second shift time will make a difference, its not really that big of a deal. Of course, if you are competing, you want a Z06 anyway.

Thanks for posting about the delay. I was planning on ordering late this year and now I'm thing I may wait a little longer. I'm glad I'm having a beer while I read this post. The only positive is I will have more time to contribute to the down payment fund if I wait

I personally think an 8 speed auto is foolish, it will be shifting up & down all the time causing unnecessary wear.

And I'm guessing you didn't hear the part where the 8spd will have faster shift speeds and be much lighter than the fastest production DCT on the market (Porsche)?

Maybe this is just a way too move all the 2014 models and at the last minute the 2015 model year will get the 8 speed automatic

I'd imagine the performance increase is minimal so it's not that big a deal either way.

Then in 2015 they'll wish they had put the 8 speed in it to shore up 2015 sales. The transmission won't effect sales one way or another. Very few people know or care what it might have in it next year. The forum members are not the typical Corvette buyers year in and year out.
