I have wondered the same thing about riding Harleys. As others have said, when you feel you are a danger to yourself or others. It is a little different with a motorcycle though. There are physical conditions which may prevent you from safely operating a motorcycle as you age, but as far as driving a Corvette, I plan on owning one for a long time. Even though the potential to drive crazy is still there, I find the older I get, the more conservative I become. They are still a blast to drive, you just don't do the crazy stuff with them now that you would have done when you were young. That's my 2 cents anyway.

Being almost 10 years younger than the average buyer's age, my take might be different because I am in good physical shape, but Corvettes are pretty easy to drive on the street in good weather, so I don't see why driving a Corvette would be any more difficult than any other car. Of course, if we live long enough, we may all get to that age where we are either physically or mentally unfit to drive any car.

I bought my first corvette, the '66 at 59 and would like to buy a C7 for my retirement which will start on my 65th birthday next year. I think I will know when to stay off the roads.

My neighbor had a C5 and on his 90th birthday he knew his corvette driving days were over, so he gave the car to his nephew. Sort of sad.

Speaking of motorcycles. I'm 66 and real close to 67. Rode for 43 years, up until last Sept, was only in one crash, a deer at 75 MPH in 2004, with some serious injuries. Heck, I had a new bike (my other one was totaled) in the garage before I was even out of my wheelchair! Last Sept. the GF and I were stopped at a red light, when a dumb *** playing with his GPS rearended us at 32 MPH. Me, broken right arm in four places. The GF was unhurt thankfully. Most of those 43 yrs I've had a summer play car along with a motorcycle. The bike usually won out on those nice summer days. After our crash, I said that's it for two wheels and ordered my C-7 on Nov. 2. Took delivery last week of my 7th corvette. I have no plans of ever buying another play car and will know when to give up my C-7. My guess is that my 36 yr old car crazy son (the apple doesn't fall very far from the tree) will gladly take the C-7 off my hands!

I'm 74, still ride a Harley Street Glide. This is my 15th Corvette and the best one so far. I might get a different color on my C8

Default Age & Corvette

I bought my first Vette at age 25. I am 70 and expecting delivery of my sixth Vette in the next two weeks. I ordered it with Z51 because I intend to keep racing. You are only as old as you feel and I am just as excited awaiting deliver of my C7 as I was my C3.

This is sort of an addendum to my earlier post. We bought this Corvette November 2013 and we love it. It is our planned touring car, so we opted for a non Z51 for the softer ride. We plan to order our next one, basically the same as this one except for the 2 top option and we will probably spring for the mag shock option to further improve the ride dampening and a smoother ride. Probably in 2016 as we plan to buy another Mini Cooper JCW for the track in 2015. Great little cars that have superb handling almost as if they are on rails, not beauties like the Corvette, but little "buggers" with huge attitude. Ah, toys, even with all its warts this is still the best country there is for me! Oh, we still fly airplanes too and plan to drive our new Corvette to Florida this spring to Jack Brown's Seaplane base to take my BFR and get current on my seaplane rating, then on to Sun N' Fun for the umpteenth time and then to Saint Augustine as we have never been there. May even continue on to Key West just because.

When the people at the nursing home are complaining about the sound of the exhaust, probably too old.

This is my 7th Vette and I feel that I can operate it safely. I gave up riding motorcycles because of my diminished physical strength and dexterity. I need a very low cycle to lift my leg over and I can't pick one up if it falls plus the other drivers have become less courteous to cycles over the years.

I'm 70 and unless I go broke or some medical condition comes along that I can't drive never. Wife drove vetts until our grandbabys came along than Camaros 2SS's and now a 2014 SS sedan v8 can hold 3 child seats in the back that's all the babys 4 and 3 Year olds, and an 8 month old. Life is good never had any boys now have 2 and a princess. 29 vetts and counting if grandma will lighten up a little.

My 7th new one will be built this week. I'm 72, so I guess that I am still too young!

I'm 68 (ouch). Concerning motorcycles, I triked my Harley 8 years ago, and don't have any plans to stop using it. Triking helps a lot for stability, etc.

Concerning it and the Vette, I will know when it is time to quit, but for now, all is well.

i was at the bondurant driving school last year and was fortunate enough to have bob himself take me around the track in a zr1. trust me--age didn't matter one bit. he was born in 1933.
