"Corvette C7 Stingray (Non-Z51, Automatic):
Now, the C7 Corvette is a good car; unequivocally better than the C6 it replaces. And I told Chris Harris that before he came stateside to do a few car reviews, including the C7. But someone at GM screwed up, and sent over a non-Z51, non-magnetic ride, automatic transmission car for him to test. This is basically the car you’re going to start seeing at Hertz lots in the next six months, if not already, I drove it too, and holy hell, was it terrible. The automatic transmission is so hilariously awful for a $50,000+ sports car that even GM agrees; they are swapping it out for an 8-speed after just one year of production. The standard suspension is sloppy and sat way too high, the brakes seemed like they were pre-beat (this could just have been an abused car, but nevertheless), and it was all compounded by the fact that we were comparing the car to a Porsche 911 Carrera S, with the best automatic transmission money can buy: PDK. It wasn’t good. And it’s not that this C7 was a bad car; I’m sure you could drive it for years and, if you didn’t know any better, think it was fine, as long as you went nowhere near a curved road or a race track (So, Florida. I’m saying if you’re old and retired in Florida, it’s fine). But for me, it really showed the difference between what you get with the Z51 + Magnetic Ride cars and the base model, and the gap was about as wide as the Hudson River. People, hear me now. The C7 is a good car, but on all things holy, get a stick, get the Z51 package, and get Magnetic Ride. It’s the difference between a good car and a great one"

Well, I haven't read all the other mags on the Stingray. Question: has any other mag driven the Stingray with and without the Z51, and an auto trans non Z51 vs. a manual trans, Z51 MRC? I'd be interested in their comparison/views. Most reviews I've seen were of Z51 with MRC.

thanks for the opinion, matt.
you give the advice, which i will ignore because you presume that everyone wants what you want when, in fact, a lot of us don't.
i want something that performs like this:
and looks like a c7 with wheels and tires that i will choose, is quiet, smooth and has ride quality similar to an 06 pontiac gto.

Yawn....that's what I've been writing for days here.......
Help IS on the way! -To quote GWB!
Nothing new there. Some A6ers believe they bought the; "be all, end all." I got news for 'em........
The A6 has already been identified as a weak point for the C7.
If you don't believe that - just watch the 0-60 YT, of the A6 bogging down. The YouTube A6 bog is viral around here - much to the complete chagrin of the Kool Aid drinking 'homers.'
So? Unless you dispute what he's writing, what's your point?

He is not alone in this sentiment. I'm sure the non Z51 suspension A6 is just fine, but I watched enough reviews on youtube of the C7, and across the board they said for the money you would be insane not to get the Z51 package, and the magnetic ride next (and I'll even add in the NPP exhaust) as they all work in harmony in the different driver modes. I think the transmission is a personal choice, but I am very glad I got a 2LT, Z51, mN7, NPP with magnetic ride.

Where did this clown drive the car and how hard did he drive it.
I have a Z51 A6 and on nice twisty roads rev matching on down shifts is great, up shifts (@5K to 6.4K rpm) are much quicker than the C6 A6 and next month it will be at MSR road course. I would not imagine the non-Z is much different excluding rear gear ratios, elsd and PTM. Well a little different considering all that and suspension but not as bad as the clown states.

If someone writes it, you guys believe it. What more can I say. Whatever media people say is truth...when in reality it is mostly garbage. This is true in political media, sports media, automobile media, you name it. It is all agenda driven and those who use it see it as a platform to make the dolts believe what they want them to believe. Ask someone who owns one of these cars and stop believing all the bs.

What I love is that he is dissing a $52,000 American Sports Car while praising a $130,000 Porsche. Apples and Oranges. Let's see him compare the Porsche to the new C7 Z06. It wont be pretty for the German contender.
In a bang for the buck world, the C7 cannot be beat no matter how it's equipped IMHO.

Chris Harris is a real car driver and he drive a lot of cars. Leaving out the auto and non Z51, he love driving the C7. Watch the video for yourself. He did comment that the transmission has a small problem and a high tech one would be nice but still likes the car. I did get the Z51 with 3 pedals and Mag ride so I can't comment on that configuration but I think it's a great car and it is a blast to drive either way.
