Default Z51 or not?

Dealer tried to talk me out of the Z51 package. They had one of each in the show room so it wasn't an availability issue. He said he tested both in Nevada during GM training and didn't think it was that much of a difference. He also said the non would give a much better ride.

I was set on Z51 just because its more performance but don't plan to track the car.

What do you guys think?

If this was posted sorry, a Z51 search brings up 1000's of posts.

I've been struggling with this myself. One of the main reasons I keep going back to the Z51 is the bigger wheels and the option to have black wheels. If it wasn't for that, I'd probably skip it since I much rather have a smoother ride than a track ready car I'm never going to track.

Z51 is the only way to get Mag Ride. The bang for the buck is great, too.
But be sure to get exactly what you want. It's your dollar.

Your money, your choice. Imho, unless you are going to push the car to its limits the extra coin doesn't make much sense. It's not like you're getting a bigger motor with more torque. To me it's like buying the competition seats just for the cool factor.

The Z51 price is perhaps the best option deal a Vette has had for a long time. If the $2,800 price is not a big deal for, I would get it. And, the Z51 is on constraint. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Can't go wrong wither way. Given you are committing $60K for a car, it seems that the relatively small price tag for the Z51 is a small price to pay. I don't plan to track my car either, but I do drive on the back roads and like to have some fun. The base car is fun no doubt, but the Z51 will be just a little funner. There will also probably be fewer on the road since they have been on constraint.

If you prefer the Z51 wheels, that alone is probably enough reason to get the Z51 package even if you don't want to track the car. For example, the chrome wheel upgrade is $2000 for the 18/19 inch 5 spoke wheels, so its not unreasonable to pay $2800 for 19/20 inch tuning fork silver wheels at only $800 extra, and that's assuming you have no value for the rest of the upgrades it comes with.

I got the Z51 only because of the wheels, and don't plan on tracking the car. For that reason i did not get the MSRC though.

And it can have an excellent ride and dry sump motor!

Get the Z51 for the much better looking wheels and because that is the car that every (every) car publication is raving about, not the standard model. Secondly, get the MSRC because it is just plain fun to feel the different suspensions between the Tour, Sport and Track modes. You will amaze your family and friends and more importantly yourself with the various personalities the car has with all these options.

And, if you can't afford at that, just get the standard Corvette because you will still love it.

There is a new "Z51 or not?" thread literally at least twice a week, but those who don't want to read them don't have to. I think this one is valuable because you had the dealer tell you, after tracking both versions at Spring Mountain, that there's not much difference. I hadn't heard that before. It's significant because some dealers may be discounting non-Z51s a thousand or two, making the cost difference more important for those on the edge of being able to afford a C7 at all.

I'd say just get the one you really want if the money's not a deal-breaker for you. Or wait for the Z06 reveal next month. THAT should be a difference.

Glad I opted for Z51 with mag ride. Would not be satisfied with anything else. Well worth the price (and wait). It slowed production of my car by over a month.

OP Funny what your dealer told you about the Nevada test. My dealer ordered a stock car for himself. Went to Nevada and reordered the Z51!!! I don't think he is going to track his car just liked what he felt. BTW he has a 3lt crystal Red stock car for sale... the one he decided not to take for himself..... PM me and I can give you his contact info.

I'll say this........ there is a thread here about leasing from one of the dealers. The residual on the Z51 is 2% higher...... so I'd think the eventual trade in/resale will bring a better return. I plan to trade in the next couple of years, I don't keep mine long so its not a factor for me. To me for $2800 it is a bargain. I'd pay that day in and out vrs $1800 for mag ride or 1200 for NPP which dont bring much in my opinion.

I bought a 13 C6 last year. Looked at the Kerbeck site and he had 150 Grand Sports and maybe 8 stock cars. I think that is the way I look at the Z51 vrs the stock car. Z51 is just more popular.

Now for some $2800 could be a deal breaker and I understand that. Plus my dealer and others are discounting stock cars so that right there should tell you something.

Good thing is you really cannot make a bad decision!!

Good luck!

If your not going to track the car SAVE your money, ride is much better, and less things to worry about down the road, still same engine/ trans, i would recomnend getting the exhaust option!!

The base suspension out performs the 2013 C6 Grand Sport per GM. That is good enough for me and I don't want the dry sump oil system. Will never track a convertible. Ordered mine last month.

How about you send me the link vs posting something useless. BTW I addressed your concern in my original post because I didn't want to here just search for it.

Thank You, however when I searched I found every Z51 related topic under the sun. Makes it very difficult to find this specific topic with my specific questions.

last line in my post explains it. Maybe I should just read the manual and decide?
