I would like to remove the stock manual shift **** and replace with an after-market **** but i am having difficulty removing the stock ****.

It is my understanding that all that needs to be done is to twist the ring below the **** (shown - silver ring between boot and ****) counterclockwise for a quarter turn and the **** will release.

Mine will not budge, and I an afraid to force it.

Does anyone have a suggestion or recommendation?

When you twist the ring counterclockwise, the **** does not release, just the ring will slide down...
which allows access to set screw on the ****.
