Price protected = patience
In reading the threads yesterday about price increases I began to doubt the wisdom of signing on with one of the dealers who could actually deliver. My order has been 1100 since October but I am assured by the dealer the next order Chevy accepts will be mine and that I am price protected.
What does the collective wisdom offer here?

Collective wisdom say that since you are at 1100 you are price protected IF you actually get your car built. How many allocations does you dealer get each week? How many of his allotment does he have left? Are you ordering anything that is on constraint (like Z51)? There are plenty of threads about low volume Corvette dealers and their inability to actually deliver what they continually promise.
note: that is a big "if" in more ways than one

I don't know what you mean. ARe you saying you are signed on with a Forum dealer? Or not?

I've been at 1100 since Nov. 21st. Price protected at MSRP. My dealer has located some cars configured almost the way I ordered mine at other dealerships but they don't want to trade car for car or they want too much money. Have not found the exact match anyway. I told him, I'll wait and thanks for all his hard work trying to get me what I want.
The strategy that GM used by pricing the car so low worked, maybe too well. Now it's priced where it should of been in the first place. Maybe GM is jealous that the dealerships are raking in the extra bucks.

Odd. Yesterday when I went in to verify the price protection there sat a non Z51 vert on the floor with $10,000 mark up.

Dealers have some allocations they have to take as non-Z51 cars. If they do not have an order for a non-Z51 car, then GM will send them whatever car they want or the dealer will lose the allocation. My dealer has several non-Z51 convertibles they got that way and they are still sitting on the showroom. There is still a waiting list for Z51 allocations.

I had an order at 1100 since Nov. and a week before the increase I cancelled and went with Kerbeck and I could not be happier. The one thing I have learned since being on this forum is that the forum dealers can get cars and the smaller neighborhood dealers cannot. I tried to do the local thing but got sick of checking on my order with no news. After I cancelled they admit that they cannot get them like the others. I do not blame them for taking the orders but it would be nice if I would have known from the beginning how GM runs the ship. I will not make the same mistake again, next car I will call Amoni at Kerbeck, get it ordered, and drive it.
Do what you want but it seams like you are in the same boat I was.

I ordered from a local dealer in Madison who claims to be the largest Vette dealer in Madison. This is what has happened to me since ordering the car.
1. When they knew I was looking at buying a Vette the salesperson called or emailed me daily urging me to get my order in and get in line.
2. I ordered the car and went a month without hearing from the dealer with the promised order number.
3. I told him about the price increase and asked for them to confirm that I was price protected, that was on Monday, nobody has called me back from the dealership yet.
4. Today I am either finding out where I stand in getting a car and being price protected or canceling my order with them and going with a National dealer.
I hate to say typical car salesperson but that is what I got, no interest in service after the sale.

If your dealer hasn't got a GM order number, you will not be price protected by GM. If the dealer hasn't got the number, it means he didn't submit the order to GM. He could have submitted it without an actual allocation the week you gave him the order and it would have been price protected. When a dealer gets a weekly allocation, the dealer can then assign that allocation to whatever order he already has submitted into the GM system. Not having an available allocation for a given week is not an excuse the dealer can use for not submitting a Sold order.

After a month I did get the order number, but the dealership doesn't seem to know if I'm price protected or not. Their comment was I have to contact my rep to see....really??? Wasn't that in the GM memo. I always think it is odd when the buyer knows more than the seller, especially when they are the one getting the memo's from GM.
Overall...NOT impressed with Ballweg Chevrolet.
