Default I am adding carbon fibre to my interior FAY was on constraint when I bought my car.

There are some very good manufactures of Carbon Fibre parts for the new Stingray. I know I can find all the parts I am looking for but my question has to do with the finish.

The factory Carbon Fibre is a matte finish. A high quality finish that is subtle and classy. The aftermarket can do that just as well. They also make the same parts in a high gloss which is really impressive. There is my problem. My interior is Brownstone which is very plush. Brownstone does not say " race me". It is more like " take me to a good restaurant".

So should I go with the matte finish? Does it enhance my interior?

Or

Do I go with the high polish Carbon Fibre which is really glossy buy obviously hard core? Very cool.

I have a briefcase which is made with a high gloss carbon fibre. People I know think it is very unusual and sharp.

I would appreciate your input.

I have the factory CF dash in my Brownstone interior. To me, it looks very good and definitely enhances the interior. Even non-car people who see the interior notice it right away. I really don't think I would want the glare from a gloss finish.

I looked at the FAY on the dealers lot when I was placing my order and I went with it because it was matte, gloss would be to much for me. I am so glad I got to look at the exposed carbon roof as well because on the Cyber Gray it looked brown in the sun. I skipped that option but it did look good on the White and Red on their lot.

My personal opinion (and preference) would be something not being made -- but it could be. The high gloss look would not, imo, be as good for your car's "look" compared to the "stock" matte finish. However, the best look, again imo, is to be somewhere in between the two---not high gloss, and not matte finish. Good luck finding, or asking for that carbon fiber finish. It is able to be done, but so far, I hear/read of no one doing it.

Thanks for the people who helped. I agree with Zymurgy. The logic is well thought out.

Thanks again ..

Bill, you can have the best of both worlds. I ordered a GM Carbon Fiber dash and then had it clear coated and buffed. It came out gorgeous. I have one available if you are interested, PM me.

You could also have it shot in satin if you want to split the difference!

I have the FAY dash and while it is a huge improvement over the plain one I find it is a bit lackluster. A gloss finish would really pop especially with the same treatment on the console. With that high gloss comes dust, fingerprints and scratches that are more noticeable. Gotta love those Apsis parts.

Boy am I confused now...LOL
I took the car out for a ride today. I tried to imagine both finishes. I think, and of corse I could be wrong, that the gloss would be to loud in the subdued zBrownstone...

Z513LT. Is the one you are speaking about high gloss or middle gloss?

It's hard to describe subtle nuances. I'd say it's definitely in the gloss camp but not to the extent of the Apsis in the pics earlier in this thread. It's very rich looking without being over the top. The clear coat really brought out the depth in the carbon fiber that is lost in the matte finish. It is most certainly no longer a matte look. It's got a smooth gleam that is what I really like about the look of carbon fiber.

I'll take some shots and post them next week. I paid $600 for the GM dash and another $250 for the clear coat and buffing. I'll be selling it for just what I paid for the dash if anyone is interested.

My car is the Kalahari and that dash isn't out of place at all. I think it would look stunning with Brownstone. It would add to the richness of an already sumptuous looking interior.

Ok now I have the perfect dash.. It is a factory original which has been polished but not as much as glossy. A great compromise thanks to all you who advised me. Special thanks to Z513LT who got me this unit. PERFECT

This is what I want ! Can you elaborate on the polishing process ? Or can I just buy it already polished ?

I was offered this by a Forum member. Not a manufacture or supplier. I was fortunate to get it and have no idea where to start to find another..

So the piece you got is simply a buffed out stock unit ? If so I'm going to go to town on the one I order

"...in the gloss camp but not to the extent of the Apsis in the pics earlier in this thread... ." Sounds familiar for some reason.

Definitely matte finish. Something about the high gloss that looks like looks low rent to me.
