Default Nurburgring time...uh oh!!

So I meet a real nice guy from GM today, he is a marketing and media rep. While talking about the new ZO6 and how it set the lap record at Milford we got to talking Z28 and the Ring and what it ran with half the track being wet. He mentioned how they are going back this summer but did not suggest it would be with both the 7 and the Z. Well you know I had to ask why they haven't posted the C7 times, his response was the track was wet. Needless to say I asked then why did they post the Z28 times and he kind of sheepishly said that they had no plans of running it again there. Next question, was the C7 slower than the Z28? He never uttered a word, the answer was in his facial response and body language. Sensing his discomfort I did not pursue the topic but if I had to bet the Z definitely ran a faster time. Stay tuned!

Not disappointed in this at all. The Z-28 was build strictly for the track and has more horsepower. I won't be taking my C-7 to Nurburgring anyway!

Exactly. I'll never understand why so many people get worked up over times on a track in Germany that 99.8% of us will never see anyway.

Can't be good. Believing the Z28 should be faster because of HP doesn't hold water considering it has beat the GTR on road courses. I also think the the chassis under the vette is a better platform.

The difference I see is in the chassis tuning and the tire compound used on the Z28.

I think the aero of the Z also has a huge effect on a big track like the Ring, not sure of the down force numbers but I'm sure the Z is significantly better.

If it didn't matter they wouldn't measure there, it is considered the ultimate race course to test a vehicles credentials.

That's kind of like saying Joe D's 56 game hitting streak has no relevance and it certainly does.

Put Carbon Ceramic brake package on the C7 and it would be faster. NEVER overlook the effect of that brake package. Being able to go is second to being able to stop.

Can't really say that, put a set of CCB's on a TA and watch it crush the competition. It's a run what you brung just like all previous models with steel brakes, besides one of the C7's most touted pieces of equipment are the brakes supposedly.

Doesn't need ceramic brakes to be faster. The GTR has standard type brakes and has better braking.

Another thread on this Dan?

IMO... this is unsubstantiated garbage... I meet people all of the time from various companies but that doesn't mean they know anything or are accurate. Post his name and position so someone can check

A marketing and media rep for GM... unless they are a C7 specific person... would very likely not have any real knowledge as to GM's plans to take the car back to the 'Ring.

Bottom line is it doesn't really matter... the C7 has been faster at the strip than most anyone predicted and faster around every track it has been tested on than its main competition in the 911S. Win and win... I have every confidence that the C7 will be comparably as capable at the 'Ring relative to the 911S and that is what really matters IMO. The Z28 is a limited production, street legal, race car... whether the C7 is faster or not isn't really relevant IMO.

You can't compare the GT-R's "standard" brakes to the C7's without knowing the pads used, etc. Their "standard" might be very different than the C7's.

The Z28 has race tires for the street with a tread wear rating of 50, really great, $1600 worth of tires with an estimated life of 5000 miles.

It is really a street legal race car, noisy and harsh riding with stereo and A/C being optional. You want it, take it, I won’t. Don

C6 ZR1-------7:19.63
C6 Z06-------7:22.68
Z28----------7:32.47

I heard the C7 did 7:32

While I'll never drive at Nurburgring, the numbers are still great for comparison purposes. From the numbers posted, I can clearly see the ZR1 performs better than the Z06 and the Z06 clearly performs better than the Z28.

Both are great cars. And the difference has to be so small that it DOES NOT MATTER except to someone who wants to stir crap all the time. Splitting hairs could come down to the driver and dozen of other factors.

If you don't like the C7 go post on the forum of the car you like. Why constantly bash the C7??? Just mean spirited people with little else to do in life.

Camaro w/Z28 package..................$75,000

Corvette Stingray w/Z51 package................$57,000

No wonder the guy got uncomfortable, no mater what he said he couldn't win. If the C7 is faster, why would any rational person pay an extra $18,000 to go slower in a Camaro?

I think the big deal about the Ring is that it is the one closed track in the world that has it all. Long fast straits, tight corners, blind corners, drastic and not so drastic elevation changes, sweeping turns, hairpins, and alot of not so smooth patches of road. So the Ring gives a car and driver the chance to push the limit in every facet of driving.

What does it mean? Well that's up to the person reading the numbers. Buy what you like. Making a decision soley based upon what someone else did on any track is not a good decision.
