Default Michelin Pilot Super Sport (how many miles)?

Well, I have 4000 miles on my Pilot Super Sport tires on the Z51.

Just measured the tread on the rears and they are at 7/32

Is that about right?
Does the wear seem excessive ?
Is the average?

I don't track the car or smoke the tires. However, i do like to punch the gas off the line.

How many miles can I expect from these tires?

Thanks
Al

I think they have 9/32 new, so based on your mileage, it looks like anything over 16,000 would be a stretch.

Few people actually get that IMO. Besides, the 30K warranty is cut in half for staggered set ups... which, of course, the C7 has

Well when I bought my C 5 coupe with 40 k the rears had been replaced and had 80 % left and the fronts ( the originals needed to be replaced ) So the real old question is how the car was driven and how many highway miles vrs street use !!! Wayne

Agreed that driving style plays a huge role. However, the more aggressive the tire (i.e. sticky) the faster it will wear out. The tires on the C5 would be no where near as sticky and soft as the PSS.

But I think the road surfaces make a difference too. Smooth asphalt vs rough or ridged concrete for example. Around North TX most roads are concrete and I could get no more than 10-12K miles on my C6 GS tires. My C7 non-Z51, however show almost no wear in 2K miles.

Yep. lots of concrete here as well, '12 GS tires were done at 9K even with the 'street' alignment. I dont drive that aggressively, but the one good thing is the rough concrete hooks hard

I would be thrilled to get 15K from the base C7 tires, not sure hpw much quicker the Z51 tires will wear..

m

I'm not driving my car hard. But I'm down 2/32 after 4000 miles. I'm hoping for 15k of use off the rear tires.

Just not sure if I'm going to buy the oem tires

About how much does it cost to replace all four of these tires on a Z51? I did a quick search online and it looked like $800-$900 but that seemed a little low.

About $1600 / set.

Here in FL the roads are tough on high performance tires. It's all the crushed shells in the mix on the older roads.

If I can get 15K out of the set I'll be thrilled but that will be more than 3 years use so I'll probably replace them before they are worn out (or trade the car on a Z06 )

Note, that as they wear past the 4/32nd mark the ride quality will fall off dramatically. It's not uncommon to replace extreme/max performance tires before they get to the wear bars simply to recover performance and ride quality.

It's also worth noting there are a number of tires now coming in the Z51 sizes at close to half this price though only the Michelin's are run flats http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...=60100&tab=All

I see members posting thread debt on the rear tire but have you looked at the inside edge of the front tires?

Go to tirerack.com. They have every fact you would ever want to know about every tire they sell.

With 4,000 already on the tires, take a look at the inside edge of the front tires to see if the alignment needs to be checked.
The alignment can be within "factory specs" and still be too aggressive for normal street driving and reduced tire wear.
On my last Z06, I could see inside wear after only 1,000 miles.
