Default Question @ Ron Fellows Spring Mountain Cars

I'm just wondering if any of the C7 Ron Fellows Corvettes have a catch-can installed on them. Thanks for your time and replies.

Not a single one of them have a catch can. Was recently verified by folks not only asking, but one even randomly opened up the hoods.

All Z51's. Most all manual; a few automatic A6. Most all have transparent roof. All warmed up and serviced when you show up to class in the morning and checked periodically during the day.

Thanks. I'm thinking of doing the program but I have a non z51 A6 and I'd rather drive one like mine. If I drive the Z51 I'll be tempted to trade my non Z51 in to get a Z51 I'm afraid.....

The z51 is more robust on the track and the course is on the track. The skills you will learn and get better with will help you in your daily driving such as looking farther ahead, car control, braking in a straight line, etc.

The only worry you may have is leapfrogging to a Z06 A8 ride after you get out there and complete the course. The school discount won't last forever.

While I agree with your comments, my real concern is that, after I drive the Z51 on the track I will go home and have a false sense of security driving my non z51, thinking it has the same "robust" capabilities as the z51. I was only kidding about upgrading to a z51. My wife would kill me. I'm already on the hook to buy her a new Lexus after buying my C7. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.

Having just returned from SM yesterday, all the cars are Z-51 and it seems about 3/4 were mag ride suspension. About 50-50 on clear roof vs painted roofs (clear easier to install GoPro). They do have a couple of automatics for each class to use if they ask. All the 2015's will be equipped with the track cam so you won't need a GoPro in the future to record your heroics

Hello,
no we do not install catch cans...not needed on these cars, just always make sure your oil is checked correctly.

thanks,

Do you know when they will get the 2015? I am scheduled for 10/30/14 and was going to buy a GoPro just for the two days.

I used my iPhone and Harry's Laptimer app. I used a Ram Mount to hold it in place.

The Main reason they use Z51s is the Dry Sump. You'll pull enough in the corners to get an oil starvation issue in a non z51.

I competed the 3 day course 6/11 and specifically requested one of their A6's since I have the same car as you. My guess is that unless you plan on putting your car thru the same paces, on a similar road course, you will not notice the difference

thanks,
Mine was on full exactly checking it by the manual and I experienced the
all too common oil puke out of the air filter. After cleaning everything up and changing the oil, I put 9.5 quarts back in and it checks 1/2 between add and full and I feel a lot safer this way. What is your procedure for checking it and how much oil are putting in at change time? Thanks.

Just returned from there a week and a half ago, there seemed to be at least 70 C7 Z51s, and one of the instructors mentioned that they had 4 automatics available. I do wonder what happens to all those cars when they're replaced ?

They told our class in June that the cars are replaced @ 5-6000 mi and taken by one dealer in So Cal for resale....

Thanks beepster, good to know. Though they get some pretty good use, they also get professional regular maintenance. Might be worth a look.
