A. Sherley & Bro. Hardware Store, Anna, TX:

Lewis and Paulina Sherley moved to north Texas from Kentucky about 1853. When the town of Anna was established in 1872, their grandsons, brothers Andrew and Fred Sherley, opened a hardware store. In 1894 they built this structure to house the business. It remained in the family after the store closed in 1979. Over time they were undertakers as well as purveyors of furniture, farming implements and machinery, wagons, cotton, grain and groceries. Wagon-weighing scales in front of the building were removed when the road was widened. The structure is a fine example of an early Texas commercial building, retaining the original canopy and painted signs. Minimal Victorian-era detailing includes corbelled brickwork in the parapet and paneled kickplates on storefront display windows.

Recorded Texas Historic Landmark - 1999

Zym, you always photograph your cars in parts of town that would scare the living hell out of me...

Anna, TX is about 45 minutes north of Dallas. It is a small town, population under 10,000. This store is off the "main drag" and the only people that stopped were two young ladies from the Church of LDS that tried to evangelize me. They were pretty car knowledgeable though and really liked my C7.

Ah, that makes more sense then. If the greatest danged is being evangelized, that's not too bad.

The places around here to get photos with abandoned factories, etc. would most likely yield a result of an interesting confrontation and escape.

Those are great photos! Seriously.

I'm particularly fond of the 'sliced' photo and would have it framed on my wall were it my car.

^ ^ I like these with the plant in the background!

When my car gets back, I'll try to get into the old Stingray plant here. Hopefully the gate guards will like the idea. Saw a '67 on a hauler there on Wednesday, but didn't have a good chance to get a photo of it. Beautiful condition, too. Was on the bottom with 8 new white vans all around it from the factory here.

My '86 C4 parked at the gas station outside of Zion National Park back in 2005 on our way to Lake Powell for a family reuinion... and almost ten years later my new 2014 Stingray parked at the same gas station on my way home from the National Corvette Museum.

Way on the horizon are a bunch of black dots which are the hotel casinos of Atlantic City, home of the world's largest Corvette dealership.
