Default Tracking C7 shipment via Onstar?

Hi all!

I've heard that once production is complete, you can track the delivery via Onstar.

Anyone know how this is done? I've downloaded the app, have a VIN but do not understand what is needed to setup the account. My salesman does not know either, he says once I pick it up we activate Onstar.

Thanks!

it's not an easy thing - the dealer has to be invoiced, and go in and report it sold (as if its delivered at the dealership) then thru onstar you can activate, but I also think someone in the car has got to press the button....

Yea, that was my understanding.....you have to complete the purchase and the dealer has to activate the OnStar on his end....whatever that means.

It was fun but I don't think it's worth it, especially now.

agreed, not worth it...most dealers wont do it... it means funding the vehicle and giving up your right to inspect before you buy...its not easy to unwind a deal once it's done...

Drake's tracking his C7 thread has to be one of the best threads ever.

Incidentally, his posts read just like he talks. Enthusiasm thy name is Drake Hemminger.

I am not certain, but my memory is that his C7 arrived with a totaled battery. As in dead. Unresurectable. (My word as I just made it up.)

I also tracked my car from the dealer in Ohio to my home in South Carolina. Nobody in the dealer had to push the button. I did it entirely over the internet...

FYI - the Onstar Family Link will not work in BG. Has something to do with the type of cell coverage there. So until it's loaded and on the road you will have no idea. At least that was my experience and what I was told by Onstar. I had mine activated and it was not released from the plant for a month after it was built (last Nov-Dec). It worked fine elsewhere but will shut off if the car is not started every 2 weeks. It was useless to me so I cancelled the subscription to Family Link.
