Default Seat leather delaminating

My drivers seat back leather is delaminating. Contacted dealer and they need to see it.

Wow! That's terrible. I've not seen anything like that before.

Yea, the finish material seems to be separating from the backing material. You can feel the separate fabrics slide with your finger tips. Looks worse in the photo than in person. Not expecting a problem with GM warranty.

Had that happen in my C6, got new covers via warranty. SUCKS! Should not be a problem for warranty replacement. Bad glue from the tanners, cover makers.

I think I read on this forum that our leather is all vinyl coated and that's why you can clean it up with regular household cleaner like 409. Leather conditioner is overkill.

This looks like there's a problem with the vinyl coat.

Is that a 2LT or a 3LT covered seat?

That's terrible. I would assume it's easily replaced. But a pain non the less.

Sorry to see that Larry. I'm sure a quick warranty visit will solve that.

I would not spray 409 on my Corvette interior!

GM uses spacer fabric that guarantees perfect air distribution – even under pressure. The fabric has an adhesive on one side and the leather and fabric are put through a heat roller to bond the two together. The adhesive has let go that is why the leather looks that way.

Evidently there is a batch of bad simulated leather out there and I have two seats with some of it. Other than the down time, warranty shouldn't be a problem.

Unfortunately that's the sad reality. You got a bad batch of "leather". I wonder how big that batch was, if I had a VIN near yours I'd be keep a close watch on my leather.

I had the side bolster pre-mature wear issue on my 99 coupe and the dealer ordered and installed the new improved seat cover w/o issue. I tried getting the passenger seat done but w/o any visible signs of wear I was told NO.

Good luck.

Really is no ones fault. Impossible to tell unless material is subjected to tests. Can't test every centimeter. Wonder how long car will be out of service for the repair? I would suspect vin batches 21000 thru 24000 might have problems.

I just noticed my seats are doing the exact same thing. Guess it's a trip to the dealer for my first (and hopefully only) hiccup.

If that center section pulls off just like it did on the C5 you should be in and out of the shop in half an hour. If it is not a separate section, who knows....as far as I know no one here has dismantled a seat yet....

Larry,

Is yours a black interior? Mine is also April build, VIN 223xx. No issues - black 2LT seats.

I have the exact same thing happening to my passenger seat and a little on my drivers seat. Same area's even, the rest look good.
I showed my Dealer the areas when I had my Radiator replaced at 500 miles.
He said to "keep an eye on it"!

Hey, Cheverolet customer service, how do I get them to replace this? $70,xxx dollars and this will be the second issue with less than 500 miles on the car.

You never know with leather.

So far my 3LT seats are perfect.

Twice in the past I've experienced early seat leather breakdown, including a Lexus LS 400 in which the leather was completely torn through in less than 2 years.
